HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Victor's is bigger.. and we have photos to prove it!!
Including me! Had to go out to the bus.
Louise.. fess up!!!
:)
Not fair!!! I want to know what he said.
I would like to see someone's cottagey gardens...anyone have that????
If I ever have one here, it will be a planting party so I can fill in my space
I have one I'm working on. Is OH to far?
Maybe if we make a trip to see hubby's uncle. They live in Aurora
I wanna know what wha said too!!! A planting party would be fun! I'm in for OH. It's closer to me ^_^
What's it worth to you curious folks????? LOL
I may do a mini here sometime, I know it's too far for many as I know how long it took me to go to the one's I've attended. Sue also said she might in a couple years when her gardens mature, and she is a couple hours east of me. She has a gorgeous yard, with all kinds of wildlife, surrounded by woods, but she wants to work on her gardens more first.
With some notice, we'd try to make it to yours, Debi! Or Sue's ....:) Not sure we could pull off Ohio though. :(
I have cottage gardens, but they would make a garden designer cry! They make me cry sometimes, too! You would think that having a landscape architect son, the gardens would be planned...nope. I don't know whose genes he inheirited...not mine!
Debi lives close to JoAnn, & my niece.....good combo.....
Color combo??
Robin, hopefully your next trip this way I won't be away.
I hope not....have to plan my trip around Laurie's vacation time, & since she works in a hospital, she has to sign up when others are not on their vacs......
Is Laurie your niece? Where does she work?
Yes....she's in pathology at Rochester General.....
Never worked there but used to be a manager at the nursing home across the street early in my career, would go to the hospital for lunch.
Laurie is happy there....she met her husband there....he's originally from Camden, ME, but his ex moved to Rochester area & he needed to be near his kids.....great father!
sounds like it!
Or he's stalking his ex! ^_^
Debilu is about half-way to NE for me. I could do that one. Hope to do one now that I have noone going to county fair any more.(DD is too old for 4-h)
victor i checked out a miss grace on the way home from work a 50% off sales - about 4' tall and great curved structure - list was 275! even at 50% off i will not bite - its been there all season and i do not think anyone knows what it is - may off the guy 100 - they also have a golden shadows DW for 5 might get that just because - it will need tlc!
Wow - that's a lot.
the list price is a lot - he had some of those montgomery spruce as well - he use to sell at $100 list and i picked them up a 50% - real nice full ones - this year they were $130 and not so full - kinda leggy like one i got last year for $45 at another nursery - think i just make a call an offer - they tree is really full with a slightly curving structure - as i said i was looking at it all year - there is also several marianna black spruce nana that look nice.

I believe this subject came up in the estrogen subaru........you guys have the right idea. Really nice shrubs with really nice trees and a smattering of perennials for shots of color throughout the season. Looks great and generally easier to maintain. Bill, sorry I forgot, but what was the blue(ish) viburnum in your front yard?
I transitioned into that over the years, Weeze. Went from mostly perennials to that.
blue shadow fothegillia weeze
Thanks Bill...that's the one that none of us could pronounce.....now I will remember it as fathergorilla...like that idiot in Iran "I'veccchhh got a dinner jacket on" Not that I'm equating a shrub with that moron, Anyway I digress...i don't have a fathergorilla, good excuse to get one! It really had beautiful coloring.
Victor, I am definitely moving in that direction. It's was very heartbreaking for me this summer that so many young shrubs had to endure the drought. I lost at least 6 shrubs this year, which broke my heart, but many more perennials which got a shrug of the shoulders. The perennials are pretty easy to replace, but the shrubs, I cried. However, the JMs took it in stride. They're tough, so I like them even more!
Jen..an estrogen subaru beats a testosterone anything every time ^_^
fathergorilla
Yes - I lost some shrubs too.
Fothergilla is a great native shrub. I have a few different ones.
I called it fothermother.^_^
Safer!

I better stick with the patriarch ape or I'll get tossed from dg
LOL! You guys are too funny! But when you were all talking about hot dogs and mentioned Ball Park, you forgot to say that they plump when you cook 'em! LOL!
Thanks for the slide show, Allison. You did good!
Amen to what you said, Louise, about everyone's gardens having something to offer as to different experiences, etc. My place is not perfect like Bill's. I do what I can to keep it up, and for the life of me, I just don't know how Bill can do all he does without help and keep everything looking tack sharp. But I have not hesitated to have a couple of RU's here, and will do it again. Why? Because I love sharing my gardens with people and inspiring others. I love meeting all the people I chat with here on DG and making new friends. Hosting a RU is a lot of work, but it's sure worth it in the end. I hope more of you will be able to attend my next RU in July. We had a small gathering here this year, but it was still fun, and I got to know some of you a little better.
Karen
weeze you can get them at rarefind for $25 - they usually have a fall sale and i plan to call them today to find out when it starts.
karen my yard is far from perfect - will start the annual plant musical chairs this weekend - as for weeding i thnk of it as mowing the lawn - it takes about an hour to walk around with a bucket and a weeding tool to get to the whole yard - i do it once a week or so -if you let it go for a month that is when it becomes a task.
I'm still struggling with large perennial beds....however, the last bed I put in is easy care stuff....peonies, roses, iris, & DLs....heavily mulched. The one before that was hydrangeas & large grasses....had to dig out the grasses, though, because Robs got a seed in his paw & it abcessed. I do have smaller grasses, like liriope.....
i am struggling with the bed in back with the arch - after the allium/lupin/foxglove/hh's pass it is pretty barron - there is a jm and 2 vibs in the back still may have to add more shrubs.
One of the benefits of cutting down the silver maple is that it opens up more room for JM's or other shrubs that like AM sun.
