Daily Butterfly Pictures Page 82

LOL ... we've just been here in Cville for a little over a year but really am enjoying it. Except for this awful drought. Phooey. But I'm still gardening. :-D)))

Wow, you've got some great pics. I checked 'my' cats yesterday and they were on the move again and eating ... guess they were just practicing and hanging out waiting for the sun to hit them. ;-)

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL again -- Crit even tries to find homes for her cuttings and prunings. ;-) As someone said, once a gardener, always a gardener. As painful as it is on occasion. Sometimes I think some of us were born with an extra 'gardening gene'.

Well I plucked a few BST cats off the fennel and put them into a cage - had also put in several twigs for them to climb up once they were ready to pupate but nooooo...they had to sling themselve to the pot of fennel!

Mine are all just hanging around this morning. One is down amid the thick stems of the parsley in a more upright position so I'm keeping an eye on him (or her). I don't see a chrysalis or the slings yet but these fat cats are getting so big! They eat well. :-)

Too funny cat!! You have triplets!

Edinburg, TX

Yes, triplets...and I thought for sure the fourth would join them but it decided to pupate on a fennel stem - you can barely make it out on the eaten stems :o)

Happy to say 7 of the 10 Tersa Sphinx moths have pupated. One still in the process as can be seen in the photo. One didn't make it - it turned to mush while pupating - do hope these weren't parasitized. The smallest of the bunch is still eating pentas in the yard.

Cool. :-)

You've got that right C'villle. I hate to see my little 'babies' die when I might be able to find a home for them. LOL You know the old saying....Waste not, want not. I'm quite frugal.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm the same way, kiddo. I hate to remove things out of the yard and garden and don't until they are practically dead (or more). But I know that's not such a bad thing cause our critter friends like to forage among the dying and dead leaves and stuff. Just looks kinds wonky. I've got a tomato out there that struggled throught the long hot summer and didn't produce a thing. But did I pull it up? No. Once it turned cooler it commenced flowering and setting a dozen or so tomatoes. I trimmed off all the dead stuff and kept it going. I've picked two small tomatoes so far. It still has some little tomaotes on it. Anyone else would have pulled it up a month or two ago. But not me. I call it the Adams Family Tomato. It's pitiful looking. I've probably spent more watering it than I've gotten in tomatoes. :-D)))

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Me too! LOL I got a pitiful few small tomatoes this summer. I did finally quit watering the ones along the front fence, and haven't checked them lately. However, I have a hanging tomato I got one *small* tomato from, plus one that I have in a pot (it is the 'top' of the one in the upside down hanger that I pinched off and put in dirt) and one in a pot that I found growing among the canna's I planted. Those 3 now have tomato's on them. LOL. Hopefully I will get some regular size tomato's from them before I bring them in. I have some bloom set that I am going to try to keep them going over the winter and hopefully get more tomato's. :-))

I LOVE the changing seasons, however, packing plants around is a pain in the b... ........er...... neck. (Literally!!!!) tee hee

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I hear you ... I finally stopped watering some things too cause the hose doesn't reach all the way to the back and sides of the yard ... and I tired of toting pails of water. I may have lost the little Japanese maple I planted earlier in the year. :-( Time will tell.

I have heard that you can cut off tomato branches that still have small green tomatoes on them and hang them in a cool garage or some place like that and those will ripen. Is that true? I will be interested to her about how yours over-winter. I luv tomatoes! :-)

Here's an updated shot of the fine fat four ... one is sort of down low in the middle.

Crit, the cuttings arrived today. My, they are nice and healthy looking! ... and they are in great shape considering they just spent a few days inside an envelope going through the mail. Right now they are in a vase of water rehydrating. Thanks again!

Green tomatoes can be picked and wrapped in newspapers to redden/mature. Might prolong your tomato season a couple of weeks...

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks ... that's good to know. It was 38 last night and we've had several light frosts so I don't know how much longer these can stay on the vine. I may just pick these and stash them in the garage.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Mine are too small to pick. They are the size of large marbles. LOL

Glad the starts arrived well.

I have never heard about hanging the cut tomato vines in the garage. I will let you know how my over-wintering tomato's do. I hope they will produce.
I went and looked at the ones on the fence today, and the tops are still pretty and green with blooms on them. Didn't go all the way out, got sidetracked, to see if there were any 'maters on them.

They are calling for Thursday to be 66/41. May start digging and potting some of the things in the ground I need to bring in, and the little banana trees. I think the great big ones will be OK for a while.

Helloooo everyone checkin in again I cant believe that its almost the end of the season again:(
Still have a few things going on here but definitely slowing down. I have been playing with a new camera and have a few pics to share.

Tpp. That is a very cool looking butterfly, very unique.

Glad to see that we had a very good season all around, there were many great pics and like I have said before I think this is the best forum.
