Oh...that is a pretty shot!!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I love those. May have to try some. How tall do they get??? Maybe we can do some trading.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I did not see one butterfly today....not even a skipper.....eeeeek!

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

I did see besides the Monarchs some Julias, Gulf Frits, Sulphurs, Cassius Blue and some Fiery Skippers as well as Duskywings. Crit I will keep you in mind. As soon as the seed heads form and are ready to be collected I'll send you some. These are about 4 ft tall but I read somewhere that can get up to 8 ft. I bet that if you cut the central stem it will stay smaller and bushier.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

GREAT roly, 4 feet is about right. Thanks!!!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Crit, the TORCH variety can get quite tall. Mine are probably 7 foot or something. I had a shorter variety (the gold color) that was about 4'

oh, and PS. Butterflies are pretty slow here too, Nanny. I saw either a comma or question mark in a tree…

oh, gorgeous. love the peacock

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The peacock is a beaut!

I got to tag three more Monarchs today ......but missed as many, I think my net is too small. At least they are coming in with the cooler weather we are having.

I saw a Buckeye today but when I got the camera it took off.

Have several skippers and Hairstreaks pics, I haven't tried to ID yet, will post later this week.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Beautiful Peacock!!

Saw a buckeye yesterday along with several sulphurs, Cabbage Whites and small skippers!

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

I wanted to share with you the progress of my garden. The Mexican sunflowers were sown there a couple of months ago and the zinnias as well as everything else was tiny when I planted them.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Looks real nice...especially since all mine is dying fast now!

I'm planning another one on a much bigger scale next year but on the backyard as well as try to make a Moon Garden with plants and flowers that attract butterflies and hummers. That way I get more bang for my buck so I'll keep you all posted. I'm loving my butterflies.

I am excited to say I tagged 10 Monarchs that came through my yard today!! I was tired though....went out back to the end of the yard to check the Frostweed, then Milkweeds......then through the house tagged and released ....then out the front to check the Mistflower and Milkweed there. It kept me busy for about two hours straight. Finally I just had to stop looking out the door.

That must be so exciting & exhausting Shelia!! I would love to see how you tag a BF.

I really need to add some asters! My hardy mum Rhumba is just starting to bloom now. So may get some late action on it...if it doesn't get much colder!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Here are the instructions for tagging ......you need to order a kit and participate next year. I had nine more today between 1pm and 4:30. I decided to stop so I can possible get some mating pairs and egg laying. They seem to leave the area when I let them go after tagging. I figure if they were hand raised ones they might be more at ease, but these were wild...just passing through.

I had 2 question marks or comma's on the fruit 'n brew plate today. Not sure which. I think it was the ? mark. They are getting really scarce though.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I am such a klutz....don't think that would be a good idea....but I would love to see it done! I am intrigued. :)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Many of the schools that maintain a butterfly garden etc. do that in the fall. You might check with those in your area.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila I went to the fielder garden today and it was totally alive with monarchs and queen everywhere, really beautiful.

Very worn looking Viceroy.....

It warmed up into the high 80's today. I had several butterflies. Red-spotted purple, yellow sulpher and 2 that i'm not sure exactly which they were. Viceroy or Monarch. One of them was on the zinnia, but by the time I got back with the camera, it was flitting around. It had 2 white dots on the top wing near the head, and was marked like viceroy/monarchs. Does anyone know what that is? I never saw the other one like it land to look at it.

Was picking dead zinnia heads and nearly grabbed a cute little green frog that was hiding out on the stalk/leaves. I took a pic of him, but haven't downloaded it yet.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I bet it was Josephine! All of those Frostweeds and Mistflowers are doing their magic. You may not have enough MW there for all the cats you will get!
I have tagged 27 so far. I am not bringing tags tomorrow, I have decided to hold my last 20 for ones I raise. One reason is when I release them they get the heck out of dodge!
I am also getting flustrated with my small net, need to get a larger one next year.

I am ready for tomorrow....getting excited. Camera in hand!

Oh I want to post one of the pictures from Fielder House Garden, of that swallowtail caterpillar on the hercules tree that is odd colored. I have a disc for you with the pics btw.

Thumbnail by Sheila_FW
Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Sheila, that caterpillar had disappeared the next day, I have a feeling it was sick.
I found 9 queen caterpillars and brought them home but they were all sick they have pupated but they all have black spots and some of the chrysalids are deformed.
I can,t wait to see the pictures you took.
See you tomorrow.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Same thing here in August, with the first round of Queens I raised (tried to that is)? They all died before pupating completly also. Only this last few I had completed the cycle. I think it was parasitic issues, but could have been OE. Here is a picture of one. Did yours look the same?

I wish we had captured the GST that day to photograph closer, etc.

Oh, I just pulled up that odd color cat pic again and noticed a wee first instar on another leaf. The strange one was pretty large, maybe it pupated somewhere.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sheila, that little tree has had many cats disappear from it, I think somebody know where to find lunch.
