Crit,
the cages don't take up much room. It's having the plants to feed the cat's that can be a challenge !

Yes nanny.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Tagged my first Monarch today....netted a wild male. I also found five Queen cats now, hopefully I have better success rate with these. They look healthy but parasites aren't seen until it is too late. I am bringing them in and hoping.

They are starting to find my brew! ! ! ! Question Mark on my Butterfly Brew.

Doesn't look like it because of the color, but it was in the sun and I was in the shade. It is a Red Admiral at the Butterfly Brew. He really was black and red. :-))

Congratulations Linda on your first tag.
Monarch density has declined since it cooled off. But the slow pokes make for some cool pics.

Crit.....I am not sure but that doesn't look like a PV....look up info on the Red Spotted Purples! I haven't gotten one of them...I need to put some brew out.

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

Nanny, nice photo of the Monarch on the aster. Viceroy too.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

I have so many species of asters, but since it's been so cold (and windy), I haven't seen a butterfly in a long time. Imagine my surprise this morning when I took the dogs out and saw a Monarch on the ironweed! I have some other ironweed that has just started blooming. It's never done that before. The only thing on any of my asters are bees. Lots and lots of bees.

I believe you are correct Sheila. Got my 'flies mixed up. Oh well, I'm a little mixed up myself! LOL I was just surprized to see it!

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

AWWW, I want to see a monarch... sigh. I have tons of yellow sulphurs, gulf frits, skippers,,, even a few ETS,, maybe this nice cooler weather will send them down my way.

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Another one finds my fruit 'n brew. I'm beginning to be happier with my brew. Now if I can just keep the wasp out of the cups with brew in them. I put a plastic scrubbie in there, but the cup is just a tiny bit bigger than the scrubbie, and they go down the sides.

Not sure what it is, but it sure liked the brew. Kept leaving and coming back for more. :-))

Looks like maybe a viceroy! Congrats!

I don't try to keep any of the bees or wasps out of the brew. I think that would be a losing battle. I just hope that those mean ol' yellow jackets don't sting the hand that feeds them. It was funny today I put some fresh out and in about 2 minutes two commas appeared!!!!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

They were waiting for you!

The wasps I have now are red. I don't know what they are....they are just a pain.

I don't know for sure, but are the red wasps the ground ones? They nest in the ground? I have these striped bodied wasps. They're weird looking and they like landing on me.

The frostweed is going full blast and the bees and hairstreaks abound....just a matter of time I hope to see the monarchs in mass.

Had more red admirals and yellow sulphers on the fruit n' brew plate today

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

I've got about 10 big Monarch caterpillars and 3 chrysalids. I was worried that they weren't going to eat my milkweeds anymore....lol. Also the Gulf Fritillaries are munching away at the passionvine.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

yay monarchs!

well here's one of the commas from yesterday.
