A friend of mine that lives along-side a golf course in phoenix, arizona has had a problem with gophers. They have killed many of his citrus trees. He has tried many options to combat such as human hair, and lava soap. I think they like his yard too much.
Any suggestions? Trying to help out a friend.

gopher problem
I have the problem too. tried flooding their holes, they disapeared for a year but are now back again.....
There is a plant, gopher bane plant i saw at the garden department. it says to make a fence with them but haven't tried it.
I had a friend run a hose from his car exhast to a main hole and let the car run a while. He forgot about it so it ran for a quite awhile. Killed his gophers, his neighbors gophers and all the gophers in the area.
Never had to try it myself but sounds like it worked.

I bought a piece of 6" stove pipe. I put it over a fresh gopher hole. I then lit a road flare and dropped it in. I immediately put a metal electric fan over the stove pipe, blowing down. Flare smoke came up through cracks all over the place. I doubt it killed the buggers, but they sure stayed away from yard ever since. I believe that this is an equivalent to the gopher bombs http://gardenpest-x.com/smokebombs.htm but the flare makes for a bigger bomb.
I have heard that the car exhaust will only work with older high emission cars. The flare does about the same thing, but much quicker.
There is a very lengthy thread over here - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/494110/
Dirty cat litter works for moles... it might be worth a try.
