Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

His were a few months apart. He still - at almost 83 - does not need glasses for driving!

South Hamilton, MA

It is a relief.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ok, so this next piece is very gross...and im ashamed to say it happened in my State!
But i've been following the story closely and am glad they (the justice system) gave the stiffest penalty Maine allows. IMHO, it should of been 10 X more!!!!!

I read about that when it first happened. Ironically, maggots are used to treat wounds on people in nursing homes.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

how terrible

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Happened in a city hospital I used to work in yrs ago too, not an uncommon problem it may seem, understaffing & attitude wast the problem there. 10k fine is a joke...

- Didn't know they were used to treat wounds, but I knew they still used leeches, - interesting. I wonder what nano-robots will bring.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, $10k is nothing.

The maggots do a great job. They eat only dead tissue and are much better, faster and cheaper than drugs. The patient does not feel them.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ok talk of maggots I am SO NOT reading that link...ICK

Thomaston, CT

Yes, too gross to think about!

Is anyone familiar with this drug for diabetes? I have some very close friends who may have been using this.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Heard that on the news.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Filled my hot tub yesterday. Felt great today after working out. The running is bothering my back way more than my knee.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

lower back? when i start up running my back is pretty bad for a month or so until i buld up those muscles again. you should know that for every minute you are in a hot tub it offsets a minute of excercise - forgot exactly where i saw that - sure if felt good on the back!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Never heard that. Cannot see how.

Thomaston, CT

Sorry, Maria....don't know anyone who uses that drug. Bill, that hot tub thing is a real downer! If I had one, I'd still use it.....instead I offset my exercise by heading to DD for an iced latte....lots of calcium, you know.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I can't just run for the sake of running, someone has to chase me.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i miss running or jogging i should say

it is the water jets softening you up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's silly. Then getting a massage is no good either. Your muscles are not supposed to stay rigid!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

investing in the stock market is silly too

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

If you have an injury - inflammation - then it would not be good. Or if you have blood pressure issues. Otherwise - fine.

Sounds like work!

I am liking twitter WAY more than FB. FB is mostly useless crap and games. If I 'hide' all thee annoying 'friends' on FB, about three will be left. Why do people even remotely think that anyone cares about the stupid crap they post on FB?!!

On the other hand, Twitter is way more useful to me. I never tweet. I just follow. So I choose the stuff that interests me. Companies I buy from. Sports stuff. Weather channel. Photography. Teams. Whatever. I check it whenever I think of it. Perfectly suited to the iPhone since it's a brief statement. Many are just good site links for further info.

Have gotten some nice discounts because of online retailer tweets.

They both get their wardrobe from the Wizard of Oz, but Cameroon is slightly better in the pants suit.
- check out the rock on Cameroon, a museum is missing a jewel someplace...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I hadn't noticed the ring with all that hair!

Thomaston, CT

And the red nail polish? Total clash....maybe she was trying to come as a fruit & veggie combo since it was for better nutrition......

Eric's aunt passed away today. These are the aunt and uncle that live in OH. She was sick awhile ago and they moved her to an extended care facility and she got a liitle better they moved into the assisted living part of this complex. We thought he was the one that was going to go first because he has cancer(I can't remember which kind at the moment...liver?pancreatic? one of them). Sad because they have no kids, she was the last one in her enitre family she had no brothers or sisters, her parents died a LONG time ago and they were only children. I'm wondering if he has considered moving to NJ to be near Eric's dad(his last living sibling)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh yeah and he's doing a very fast burial, on Tuesday, so Eric's dad and wife are driving out on Monday.

Apparently, experts have labeled people between the ages of 30 - 60 as "the sandwich generation."

We have an unexpected custodial obligation to the generation that preceded us, as well as the obligation to the generation that follows us.

I guess it has to do with the change in retirement plans, or some other major demographic/financial shift.

The Bottom Line: a lot of us have to be in a state of constant concern, despite our efforts of consistent caretaking.

edit: maybe the politically correct term is "caregiving."

so sorry to hear that Jen

Thomaston, CT

I'm sorry, Jen......sometimes the caregiver goes first.....lots of stress caring for a loved one....

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Sorry for your loss Jen.

(Yes, life is anything but predictable, I bought my house in fact from the sons of the previous owner. The husband had been a caregiver for his wife who was sickly and bed ridden due to a broken hip and complications. An otherwise strong and healthy man, he contracted pneumonia and passed away, she followed a year later.)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sorry, Jen. Tough when there are no kids to take care of things.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Strange - when I first go into the hot tub, I get goose bumps, as if I were going into cold water. Weird!
