pruning pink velour crepe myrtle

I just bought a crepe myrtle 'Pink Velour'. I will put it in the front yard in full sun off the corner ofthe porch. Sounds like it gets pretty big. Right now it has several branches coming up from the ground. If I prune it, will it get bushy, or should I chose the best branch and form it into a tree? Hoping for guidance.
