I noticed my young flowering Cherry tree (about 5 feet high) was leaning over at about a 45 degree angle so I pulled it up and staked it.
I then noticed that at the lower part of the trunk there were a couple of spots of reddish gelatinous goop- almost like sap over areas of bark that looked dark or blackish.
My first thought was a borer, but last time I had one of those, it was just in one spot and it was quite a bit of more orangey goo. Then someone told me that this happens when a tree is injured.
Any advise on whether this is normal sap? Or does it sound like Borer or injury or something else? If injury, what should I do?
Thank you!
Rusty reddish goo (sap?) on my young cherry tree trunk
