Victor suggested this thread, and since it is almost Fall, what is better than Fall in New England?
Travel destinations, what are your favorites?
Pretty picture Deb!!
I want to see Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, and several National Forest. Have lived a sheltered life as far as travel goes so any where out past the New England states would be nice. I did go to Florida but only for 4 days....it was a tease!! LOL
Beautiful!
Thanks Celeste, we have traveled a lot, though I don't care to see Hawaii!
Route 100 in Vermont is beautiful and there is a little country store in Warren we stop for breakfast, lots of good pastries. We actually go sight seeing for moose so we get up early and drive around and sometimes get lucky enough to see one or two.
One year on my birthday, I dreamed we saw 2 moose, and I yelled to DH to stop the car. Well, I wanted to get up and go, but DH was still asleep. Then the hotel alarm rang (we didn't set it) so DH got up, we got out and saw 2 moose!
very nice pictures - i have travelled a lot for work and pleasure - love teh maine woods and baxter state park, and national parks. would really like to go trekking in nepal again although my wife is not interested and you need three weeks min to make it worth while. spending some time in australia and new zealand would be nice, only was there on biz. and go back to the greek islands for a relaxing vaca would be great - santorini is beautiful.
Thanks, Deb. Great shots of Maine, ladies.
Any pics, Bill??
before digital victor - you would have to visit and look through our photo albums.......
I know, a lot of my pictures are before digital, so would have to scan everything to post.
I actually lost a roll of film after riding the Cog Railway up to Mt Washington, from there, was a huge double rainbow, beautiful. We haven't been back up since, so I have no photos.
DW and I agree never to go to the same place 2x when it comes 'travel' destinations. We go to Scuba resorts which combine a land/ sea vacation. Honduras, Belize, Brazil, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Hawaii, Figi, Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, Curacao, Cancun, Antigua, are some of the places We've been to. (-I'm sure there's more, but I'm not counting the little tiny islands less than 2 miles across that take 2 flights and a boat to get to...) I also drove across the country RT, but that was business so there was no 'sightseeing'. - Got hundreds of pics, all prints, in 3 stuffed boxes, in the basement, in random order, sometimes stuck together. - that reminds me I have to go spray for crickets down there... (lol)
Gee, you folks are travelers! I'm headed for Maine after Bill's RU, I could go there every month & not get sick of it.
I've been to Brooklyn.
That can be exciting!
I popped in real fast and will read all the posts later but my favorite travel destination is anywhere new...for some reason hubby gets into this...oh we like it so let's go back there... I HATE that...let's go somewhere where we've never been.
lol, Victor! How'd that work out for you?
Beautiful photos, Debi!
Some of my favorite places are Sanibel and Captiva Islands in Florida (loved the shelling there as a child before they were so discovered!), the Caloosahatchee River in south Florida, Kauai Island's "grand canyon", Dubrovnik (Yugoslavia), Paris, Corfu and Crete (but 3rd degree burn from stepping on the sand without shoes), Saint Lucia, Maine, Yellowstone Park, Bryce Canyon and Zion in Utah, the upper Hudson River, my meadow here in NH, the Smokies and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
The moose are becoming so rare here in NH. "Holiday Mel" who showed up on Columbus Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Halloween in different years hasn't been seen since 2006. Instead, we have an increase of coyotes, bear, bobcats and turkeys.
And cougars.....which is why Mel may not be around any more......
Great pics, Deb
My scanner is currently not working, so my old pics that I've posted I've actually taken pics of pics. Works good just got to angle it right so there's no glare.
Goal is to see the US before seeing any other country. I'd LOVE to go to Hawaii. Favorite drive is down the Blue Ridge Parkway, I LOVED NH, so would really love to see VT and ME
One great thing about my childhood we took a vaca every year.
The state of Maine has 6,000 lakes, 32,000 miles of rivers, 5,000 miles of coast and 17 million acres of forestland.
I'd like to visit at least half the lakes, i've travelled over 1000 miles of the coast line, only have 4000 more to go! I'll never travel through all those acres of forestland, but it's OK ....I can try!!
You've been counting?!!
No, not counting...facts on Maine that im aware of....but i'd like to at least try!
We have traveled to many countries and other continents it would take quite a while to write them of here. One of our favorite place was New London NH. We had a second house there, mostly to ski but never missed the most beautiful autumn foliage staring down at us from the mountains. During our stay we visited the neighboring states, crossed Vermont into New York and even all the way up to Quebec. Lots of photos but they are slides. Have to get them onto the computer.
Never was interested in Hawaii either, debilu, but I suppose it is a pretty place nevertheless
Some of our favorite trips have been Yellowstone, Blue Ridge Pkwy, Williamsburg and Acadia.
Ours too Victor
We stayed at a great hotel in a small mountain town called Little Switzerland in NC.
I'm surprised you've never been to Italy Victor.
We are really looking forward to going, WC! I've never been out of the country. Need to save up for a European trip. We are talking about visiting with my HS teacher friend and his wife.
This is where my grandfather was from and would be high on our list.

Rightly so, it's beautiful!! - Italy has so many beautiful places...
Italy would be beautiful.
I've only been to Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
We were in Bologna, Venice, Rom and Florence.
Michelangelo's David just took my breath away
Hope you get there soon Victor
Wow - cannot wait, Maria.
I've been to the Italian Riviera.....much nicer than the French....nice sand beaches, unlike the shingle on the French.....also ate in a real grotto....Positano is gorgeous...hard to leave a place like that, but the economy, & a chance to own land brought many Italians here.
Yes - that's what I always said - how can anyone leave?!! But reality kicks you.
Where ever we traveled both of us, no matter what country, we followed its History and Artists.
