full shade to hot afternoon sun

Oklahoma City, OK

hi everyone I'm mike and I'm new here.........so much for introductions!
i have tried numerous perennials in my front yard and have had little luck with a plant that can tolerate the conditions i have.

dappled light until around 6 pm then that hot west sun cooks everything i plant.

i need some color in my front yard and i prefer perennials.....any suggestions

What exactly have you tried so far?
What kind of soil do you have?
Are you looking for flowers, shrubs, foundation plantings or ?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You'll want full sun plants.

here's a few
Achillea, agastache, coreopsis, phlox, salvia, oriental poppies, echinacea, kniphofia

My front flowerbeds face south and get blasted with our very hot summertime sun. I've had real good luck with butterfly weed (asclepias tuberosa), coneflowers, day lilies, coreopsis, and blanketflower. My "soil" is clay.

My front yard faces east and is very shady. Any perennial suggestions would be appreciated. Thx.

Hi Linda,
Don't know what type soil you have. As mentioned above, mine is clay but I do amend it with peat moss and mushroom compost each time I plant. I have an east-facing flowerbed too. There are so many plants that thrive in that bed that I don't have room for all of them (it's a short bed). I have clematis, day lilies, azaleas, coneflowers, shrub type jasmine, an Angel Face (lavender colored) rose, and I'm getting perriwinkle established as a living ground cover.
