Mail Order Daylily

Westminster, MD(Zone 7a)

Hello,

I have an odd question about mail order Daylilies, I've questioned the supplier, but they just send new plants.

Two times now I've bought Daylilies online, from two different nurseries, first time Purple Stella d oro, then Darling Deception, both very pretty plants, but when they bloom, I get a thin petal red flower with dark yellow center, from both types of plant, even though they are different plants, is there some kind of thing that it will take a year or two for the plants to produce the proper flower ?

Thanks Joe

Sounds like your plants are mislabeled. Have you looked up the company you ordered them from in the Garden Watchdog? http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/ If they've got a less than great rating there then it's not unusual that you'd get mislabeled plants--there are several companies that sell daylilies that have great Watchdog ratings so I'd suggest ordering from them next time. Or if the company does have a good rating, send them pictures of your flowers to show that they're not what they're supposed to be and they ought to replace them.
