Thanks, everyone. Activity is really beginning to pick up here. I sure hope we have a mild winter and the birds aren't chased further South. I just placed my order for Millet seed for the Buntings.

A pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers landed on the dead tree a few days ago. They seem to be such playful birds!

My oriole juvies are continuing to gather strength for the migration by munching on the neighbors' apples.

I'm still trying to get a decent photo of the Belted Kingfisher. Found this one at the park last week, but it was a good distance away.

Our grebes are continuing to build nests on the vegetation in the lake. This is a Clark's Grebe we found while on the kayak.

Your Orioles are so cute Duc and I am jealous of your Kingfisher shot! I would like to see the Clark's Grebe you mention on the above post.

This was really weird today… I was wondering when it was last year that I saw the Red-breasted Nuthatch in my yard. I thought it was spring, but turns out it was two weeks in November. Then suddenly this one showed up!!! Guess my Bird ESP was working.

I just those little cuties!! I had them in 2007 & '08/09 winter....but none last year. Hoping the come this winter!!

I've been enjoying several juvenile House Finches (I think they are anyway) each time they come to the feeder.

This young oriole was trying to figure out how to jump to the branch for the longest time.

It took several tries, but this was the look of triumph.

Pretty orioles...would love to see one about now! Very cool today here....fall is in the air for sure. I had to shut a couple windows it is so cool!

ah yes, I love september. Cool mornings, lovely 70s in the afternoon. I just had (but no photo) a female Rose-breasted grosbeak. FIrst time I've had them for the fall migration.

Congratulations Mrs Ed, although I'd still love to put fall off for a while. I just don't like the hot one day, freezing the next which is what this month brings our way.

"Stubby", my Brewer's Blackbird was looking pretty in the early morning sun. I'm so glad he's doing well with his broken bill.

The Lesser Goldfinches were playing on the fence.

Well let's see, things are picking up here. I have tons of house sparrows (sigh), but more visits from the downies.

The black capped chickadees are here all the time. I had a total of 3 at one time this summer.

And a pair of white-breasted nuthatch always make things amusing

Rose, really nice redheaded woodpecker. They might be my favorite woodpecker. Those vulture shots are unbelievable. Save those for Halloween.

I still haven't gone through my pictures, and I'm too tired to do it today too. I'll just share this boring old grackle. He flew in and landed on the phone line and all the birds flew away in a panic. I think he was as confused by it as I was.

A new bird for me this afternoon at the Osprey nest. A Shining Bronze-Cuckoo.

It was enjoying the late afternoon sun and didn't turn around to face the camera once. I hope to see it again. I believe it is uncommon in the area.

Gee Elphaba, my Goldfinch stay here all winter. So where do the ones that migrate come from??

Spied this cute little Carolina Wren one morning enjoying the sun.

Wish they would show themselves more. I just think they are so cute! I hear them more often than I see them.

Mrs Ed, great job with your downy, chickadee and nuthatch. Those peanuts really draw the birds close.

I think this is one of my juvenile House Finches.

I was on our lower deck in the backyard when a couple Wrentits began jumping all over the vines on the fence. It's been nearly impossible to capture these fast birds on the camera because they so rarely appear in the open-till yesterday! I was surprised when they jumped to the top of the fence and looked at me.
