I will soon be moving to a new house, and want to take my outdoor plants with me. I have bearded iris, montauk daisy, day lily plants and a few others. I was just wondering what the best way to move them would be? Thanks.
Transplant questions
Is it warm there right now (as in warm enough that your plants may suffer if you dig them)? If so, one of the best things you can do is use a shovel to go all the way around each plant as if you are going to dig it up but then leave it for a few weeks. This way it can get used to surviving on fewer roots but without having to adapt to a new location as well. Then you can pot them up or bundle the root with burlap the way they do balled and burlapped trees.
Are you allowed to take the plants with you? Here in NJ under the contract for the house all plantings have to stay with the house.
