Hello!! I was wondeering if anyone knows when to plant rutabegas and parsnips for a fall garden in san antonio,tx (zone 8b).
Have I missed the date?? I was also wondering about eating the greens of crops like turnips and radish
(as well as the radish pod). Are these edible or should I stick to varieties that are grown specifically for
these purposes?
Root crop questions
Both radishes and turnips are grown for greens as well as the roots. Taste of each is similar. Don't know about San Antonio, but in this part of Georgia I plant radishes ( both European and winter), turnips, rutabagas, carrots etc as soon as the soil cools enough for germination. Sometimes the last week or so of August, but it has stayed hot this year so it will be after labor day. I do succession planting till about the middle of October. I don't care for parsnips so have never tried them here.
Thanks :)
I have never eaten parsnips so I wanted to try growing my own.
