I am totally confused

Jeanette ... please explain bubble root the ends of branches

Dawn ... explain how you use diapers and what kind

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, wherever Dave goes we follow. Kinda like the Pied Piper.

Bubble root. Mary, that means that I cut the tops of the branches off and put them in a waste basket with water in it and an aquarium air stone to put oxygen in the water. They root pretty good that way and then I plant them in pots for winter.

I use a waste basket for height. It holds them up since they are fairly large plants. I also put some hydrogen peroxide in the water. That helps keep the algae down and keeps them from rotting.

Morrisville, PA(Zone 6b)

thanks Jeanette giggle ..... the newbee learned something new.

Maybe Dave did not like the JM seeds I sent.

I hope Sharon post more pictures.

I also hope Dawn explains about the diapers .......PRETTY PLEASE DAWN

Oh I amost forgot to say it rained today ... sure hope JB received some also.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Merry in the West we use diapers as sweat breakers for the back of our neck. They have water absorbing particles and last much longer than just a plain cloth.

Had a good day. DH is right now stuffing his face with fried okra.

Did not do much gardening but full schedule for the rest of the week. Just got off to an off schedule start this morning and never made it back on schedule. I went to the pharmacy to pick up the female dogs insulin. It was suppose to be ready and they had to send out for it. Also had to take my neighbor to get a rental car because she was involved in a 5 car pile up. She was not hurt but she was the first car. The last two cars had very hurt drivers.

But the worst part of the day was that I woke up at 12 noon. I think I finally got to sleep at about 3pm. I do not toss and turn, I just lay there very relaxed and think about a hundred things. Oh well, this shall also pass. My doctor said he would give me something to make me sleep. I said, I will pass on that.

Jnette, I thought maybe you had been kidnapped. Glad to hear it was your computer.

We should all go visit Dave, he has morphine on drip. Dave, that means you have a lot of pain, my friend. I am so sorry. You are such a lovable guy I am sorry you have to deal with that much pain.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I think I must have posted on the wrong thread. Cheap diapers, hold a lot of moisture, as do expensive ones, you just gut the middle and take out the gel and put them in your plants the same as the other polymer crystals. People here told me about it and there are a lot in the linings of diapers so a cheap generic type goes a long way. people give them away on Freecycle too.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I saw a pattern, measurements for that Sharon, the neck cooler thing. Mary, we don't all wear diapers around our necks and I was born in the west.

Would love instructions for frying okra Sharon. One of these days I am going to find okra in a local store and want to try it. There was a thread where a lot of people in the south told all the ways they fried and cooked okra in other ways and they all sounded wonderful. Where do you find them in Nevada?

I do the same thing Sharon, only I wake up at 3 a.m. and lay there thinking of all the things I should be doing. If I thought I wouldn't wake everyone, i.e. Bob, the dogs, and the cat, up I would get up and do some of them.

Yes, I really feel sorry for Dave with that darned morphine. I can't even tell you all the things I see when I take that stuff. I have it on my charts at all the hospitals and the computer system not to give it to me. I made the nurses call Bob at 3 in the morning and wake him up to come protect me from all the animals the nurses were chasing. He did come down, 2 hours away, but once he told me he would come down, I went to sleep and didn't wake up for hours. When he got there he went back out to the car and slept.

But, when you use that stuff, pretty soon you can't get enough to do you any good. Then what? But, I think Dave has been on it for a long time.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

We cross posted Dawn. Isn't that pretty expensive to buy, even the cheap diapers, to get the crystals? Can't imagine that there are enough in there to get your moneys worth.

Yes, somehow we got 2 of these going. Dave, you need to close one out. When you get on here that is.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JB, Happy Birthday!! When is it? You don't tell us in your preference. But, have a wonderful one anyway.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Happy Birthday JB.
I thought it seemed expensive too, but after I dissected one that I had from my gd around, I saw how much was in one of them. The pack was about $9 but there is a lot of diapers in the pack and quite a lot of gel compared to the small pack of Moisture sorb crystals...I don't know but it is more hastle than I need. I just commented that I needed them and did not have them, so I thought I would bust out the ole diapers.

I am not from the west Sharon but I am willing to cool myself off with a diaper if thats what it takes.

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Quote from merrymath :

Dawn ... explain how you use diapers and what kind

Oh Mary... the things your mother never taught you...
:-)

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Dawn, back a few posts from me I told you about some pads that I bought to put in the bottom of my hanging baskets. I spent $5 or so for 4 of them. Would the diapers work like those things did? The whole pad was probably suffused with the paste that someone talked about. Are the crystals in between some layers? of the diaper?

Do you look for any special brand of diapers? Or are all of the throw-a-ways like that?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Oh Please, how many forums do we have open now. I am too busy and frustrated to have to hunt you guys. IT RAINED LESS THAN 1/4 INCH YESTERDAY. Big woop! I hate this.
I told you on the other forum, which you will no doubt not even see again, that I shipped some cactus to KY today. Must go, be back later. JB

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Thank you so much for the Birthday wishes. Thursday is the big day. Aug/ 26th. I am ready to rumble that day or is it Grumble?

Rain is now ocean mist and nothing more. I have cuttings to plant and other work to do but I also have a sick friend who is making her son crazy with her anger fits, and I have been helping him and his family deal with it.

I am now going to do my exercises. I have a DVD for arthritis etc. So, I do it to keep everyone happy. LOL I would rather take a walk but it has been too hot and today it it too misty. I got wet once this morning walking. It is like having a wave blow in your face. Just too wet to walk, not enough to make the plants grow. Blah Blah Blah. Later gang. JB

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Jnette, I cannot image you have never worn a diaper. I was just seeing if Merry was awake and reading everything.

I get my okra at Whole foods. Heather, my daughter in law, that moved to Spokane says you do not have a Whole Foods but something close to it. I cut up the okra in small 2 to 3 inch pieces. I soak them in butter milk for a couple of hours. I dry then dip in corn flour. To the corn flour I add a small amount of cumin and Hispanic spices. I deep fry in a small pan with corn oil at 350 for about 4 to 5 minutes. Place on plate with paper towel and salt immediately. I make a sauce with just ketchup and hot sauce for me and just ketchup for DH. I used to grow my okra but could never get enough to make a patch. But they do have a beautiful flower.

Going to be 105 to 107 until Saturday. Then we are suppose to go below 100. I cannot wait. I have gardening to do before DH's doctor appointment so must get off of here.

JB, your birthday is the same as my daughter-in-laws. What kind of cactus do you sell?

Dave you are like me. I can work my self to death but when I stop I am done for for at least the next day. And I do not have your back problems. Later.

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

Happy Birthday JB. and many many many more. Take care and have fun on your special day!!!!!!!!!
The wedding is over, pictures are due around the 4th. I will try and send a candid one, but the professional ones should show the dresses better. Enjoy

Don't know what I did wrong, but it doesn't get enlarged. Any Ideas?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

how big was the original????
I always have to shrink mine to get DG to accept my pics

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

how does the dvd work for arthritus? just curious how it helps as I am now finding other parts of the body are not happy anymore. it seems I need to greese my joints but I can't find any place to hook up the greese gun to.

Miles City, MT(Zone 3b)

I don't know how big it was, since I received it via email.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That may be the problem Lee. On the other end. When I had that happen my daughter told me it was because I was making it part of my email instead of attaching it. So, I attached them after that and then the recipient can enlarge them.

But, on Daves no matter what the size it comes out as a thumbnail. I think your problem was the people that sent it to you just made it part of the email instead of attaching it. Nothing you can do about that.

Here is Bob getting ready to cut down my brug. LOL

Thumbnail by Jnette
Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

lol pix size. We have all experienced this.

Janette, the diapers can be any generic brand and you can get the smaller sizes so they come in a larger quantity. The plastic on the diaper has to be removed but inside is the gel and cotton batting, so you could probably substitute it for the purpose you asked about.

JB what is the name of the exercise video? My poor ankles feet and toes have hated my exercising but I never lose any weight with eating right alone, my metabolism is so slow, I have to do some kind of cardio. My thumb is so bad now, I assume it is arthritis but it could be spurrs or anything.

Dave. I had many patients on the pump, with Fentinyl gum for break through pain, and some had the patches and the gum. I had many that had the internal stim unit. Most did not notice the help until it malfunctioned or it was removed, then they realized it did help.

You poor thing. I don't know how you garden like that.

It was hot as Hades here today and still is at 6:09.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Hiding in the wings for awhile!!! My prayers are with ya'll!!! My old bones are following ya'll rapidly!!! Can;t use or move my left thumb w/o my Hemotite bracelet that ILoveJesus just re-strung for me!!!
Jnette, I love that pix of Bob!!! Love a man that can handle my chainsaw!!! lol
:~)

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

howdy:
I do what I can and break it down into small spurts mostly 1 or 2 hours then lay down and then maybe in the afternoon I can go do something else. I use my nieces for some of the heavy stuff, but thats why I stick to the small stuff like flats of seedlings or liners in 50 cell count trays.
I will say I got lucky with the single timer I bought it works quite well for my cuttings. I bought a new 4 station one to do my nursery part of the watering. I even managed to hook up my hose injector to the main water hose so it will feed automatically for me. Its amazing how things jumped when I shot a bit of miricle grow to them.
I still need to pull my flats out and lay down my ground cloth. I also have to figuire out how I am constructing a frame for my shade cloth. My poor hostas wont tolerate another year of little shade and a lot of sun. I was using the fences shade for hold them over. I got lucky in that they seem to tolerate it.
I have to move my nw corner bed in the back yard that was a shade garden but is now a 3/4 sun bed. rits frits a fratsa home owners comittee... have I said I hate comitties?
well its bedtime for bonzo
nitey night

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Sorry things are hard now Smockette, hang in there. Answering emails is sometimes the least of our worries. Friends will understand, the ones that don't are not worth stressing over.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Somehow I knew someday I would run across her again. Dawn is right tho, emails will always wait. Just glad to hear your voice.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Well, DH heart is defibrillating. So it is either going to fast, to slow or both. He has had this for a long time, just did not bother to tell me. I brought up the energy drinks and the doctors said that he and DH had already had that conversation. Well I told the doctor he should state it again because he was in the hospital from dehydration because of the energy drinks. He gave DH the look of the devil and then came a big lecture. Then he asked about the two medicines he was taking. I told him he was only taking one from him. I knew because I am in charge of the prescriptions because it is on my retirement medical. Then he really got upset with DH. Gave me a new prescription and hen set up a bunch of tests. First one is a blood test to see if he is still dehydrated. Then next Monday, stress test and many more. Then DH tried to makes excuses about the energy drinks and how he only took little sips. The doctor gave me "THE" look and then left the room. So we get in the car and DH says, "I guess I am in big trouble with you, right". I said no, I am stopping by the store and buy you two cases of the energy drinks. The stronger, the better. Nothing much was said after that except I am going to tell your daughter. You see, he is more afraid of her than me.

I did get a little gardening done today but tomorrow is going to be non stop gardening.

Merry, what would you like photos of posted. I will take photos of the three new iris beds.

I have the power washer I got for my birthday put together by DH and our youngest son and I am going to use it two ways. One to clean the patio and driveway. Another to fertilize the tall trees. My neighbor was shocked I received a power washer for my birthday and I told her that is what I requested.

I still have many more irises to plant and then Dee from Oregon sent me some irises to test. I have to take cuttings of the coleus and get them planted to hold over through the winter. I think I might place the coleus in the green house.

Still looking for some unusual cactus for the security gate area. I need something in a red or blue hue. Right now the majority of the cactus are silver gray.

Someone asked if I did all the work on the greenbelt. I am the only one giving directions but there are about 15 laborers here on Monday and then 5 laborers on Friday. But they have every tool and equipment anyone would need. They are very happy being here in Canyon Fairways because they are treated like real people and friends. This area is called The Canyons because the neighborhoods are built in a very large canyon. You will have to see it to understand. Not a high canyon but a wide canyon. I know Merry, take a picture. I think it would actually need to be taken from a plane but I will see what I can do.

I am with you Dawn, I think Evelyn is it. I wonder if we just pretend we are there we will feel cooler. Dawn and my problem is when it cools down, then we have a lot of work ahead of us for our winter planting. You see, we plant our spring flowers in October and November. That way they are in the soil, growing roots but very little top foliage. Then when the soaring heat hits, they burst into rapid growth.

Well later friends. Love you all and you are all in my prayers for health and safety.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Sharon, what are these power drinks you buy for DH? I tried a gatoraid the other day at the fair for the first time and it tasted like water. Maybe that is it. I normally drink orane juice for a shot of energy. Maybe this was citric acid in water?

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Smockette, I do not know you but any friend of jnettes is a friend of ours. You should just join in and tell us all your woes. We all have them in one degree or another. Sometimes just getting it off your chest is good for you. With the economy the way it is everyone is in a what is happening mode and just waiting for it to go away.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Jnette, I do not buy therm for him. He buys them and sneaks therm in the house. They are like Red Bull but the ones at the nutrition stores are more laced with caffeine. Our cardiologist says if you take in 8oz you lose 24 oz because of the caffeine. There are some called "What to feel 40 again", and they go from there. They are for old fools that are in their 70s and want to feel like they are 40s. Well we females know that nothing is going to make you feel like that. Anyway, anything you can drink from a bottle. Can you tell I am really ticked off at my darling DH.

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Sharon, can't believe he would drink those- they are LOADED with caffeine... I think the HS kids around here chug them to get a quick 'high' (of course, we ARE talking about Nebraska kids)
You missed one stop on the way home from the Dr's- should have told DH you were stopping to pick up a new life insurance policy for him, THEN pick up the energy drinks he wants so badly!

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Hey, Dave, I can definitely relate to your committee/city/neighbor tree removal complaints! I have to say, the following 2 pics are not really fair, as the 'after' pic was taken in the winter when all is brown, but of course the issue is what is behind the fence... (they tore down a ton of trees and erected 9 dormitories)

Hold yer breath....

Those power drinks will drive your heart into flips. Why in the world would he drink them? I would be afraid since you never know what is in them except the caffine, which I may not have to much of because of my anxiety. I take a drink daily from Life Force International called Trueboost, but it is B6 and 12 vitamins, sugar, pantothenic Acid (as calcium), Niacin,Krishina Tulsi (Holy Basil, leaf and flower),
Sensoril (Ashwagandha Extract) (withania somniflora leaf and root) and Potassium D-glucarate - I started to use it about a year ago and my cholesterol went down 36 points.
I do however, on some days, and I am not sure why,get a feeling I can not explain after I take it. Not all the time. In fact seldom, but I thought it was from it. I am not sure it is not the anxiety thing combined with it. i love it and it does not give you a "boost" like the caffine does. It tastes like peach. My doctor approved it too.

Morrisville, PA(Zone 6b)

I am somewhat dishearten that dave has not yet received the JM seeds.

I purposely went to the post office last Wed and had them determine and place the postage. Next time I will request a delivery confirmation. grrrr.

Evelyn .... nice picture .... are those petunias blue?

Jillann .... I can understand your dismay over the new view.

Sharon ... please share how you mark plants .... and oh yes ..... more pictures .... I know I am the one always making the request ... but I know everyone enjoys viewing them.

It rained yesterday .... today it is on the mild side.

I wonder what type of winter we will have.

LOVE YA ALL

MARY

Jeanette .... your plants are perking up ..... I ordered some lily bulbs from the present DG co-op. Delivery should be around Oct 10th. Since I also want to plant some of the new lily bulbs in the same area as your plants .... do you think it is OK to keep them in the plug tray until them. I will post a picture of your plants in there present condition.
