I just moved from California to Colorado. We moved into a house with a great vegatable garden I would love to keep up. Is there anything I can plant after we harvest what we have growing that will cultivate in the winter and begin growing in the spring? I'm sorry this might seem like a silly question to some but I am a garden novice :/ I'm actually a Colorado native but we never had a veggie garden!
Winter Veggies?
Hi,
Welcome to the wonderful world of veggie gardening!
We're in different growing zones (I'm in 9a), and I don't know which Zone you're in. But there are TONS of veggies that you can grow starting at the beginning of Fall, stagger sowing seedlings all the way up to around December 20th that will grow aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallll the way into March/April or so.
Read up on "cole" crops, especially brassicas (cabbages, cauliflowers, broccoli, kohlrabi). Turnips, beets, carrots, mustard and collard greens, sugar snap peas, onions & garlic.
I can't really guide you cause we never get snow on the ground long enough to damage anything here. I believe you have White Christmases when we're wearing bathing suits (still in the middle of winter!) Pop on over to the Vegetable Gardeners forum and see what other growers in your area are up to.
Godspeed and Good Harvest!
Linda
