Hi all! I'm not really new to gardening but new to growing watermelons as I finally have the space. I have several melons that are on the vine, I don't know when to pick them! The tendrils near the stem are still alive and because they are smaller (I'm thinking) I'm not really seeing a yellow spot on the bottom? Any advice on this situation? Thanks!
How to pick watermelons
This was my first year also. Was told the tendril needs to be dried up and brown near the stem and yellow spot on the bottom. What few I had, it worked. Hope this helps.
Thanks Vhanna! I'll keep watching the tendrils. (-:
When they go from bright dark green to more of a flat bleached out green they are ready to be picked. Better to just wait till your sure they are ready than jumping the gun, I hate having to trash a unripe melon because I picked it to early. Study the ones in the store and compare colors will give you a idea on ripeness. Good Luck
