Dnut, it's much colder than the rest of the state.....my son's town is on a high plateau.....always 5-8 degrees colder than my town, & it's not very warm here in the winter....the first year he moved up there, there were piles of snow in May.....I'd like to see no snow this winter.....sigh....

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

oh thanks RD.

You can't see them all but there are 2 zuccini and 22 Buttercup Squash in this picture. The sad part is I have already given away 10 BC and haven't even picked the butternut yet!!!

Bet you couldn't give away the zuccini! LOL

Canned pasta sauce last night from all the Romas I've frozen over the past weeks. Looks like I have late blight so there won't be anymore canning to do.

Trying an experiment this year - picked two bags full of Amaranth - Hopi Red Dye seed heads and trying to dry them and collect the seeds and then find some way to cook them and eat them. The recipies say to pop them like pop corn - but they are tiny with a little t.

Fabby harvest Pixie. I harvested my potats. Only got a couple dozen from 8 plants. Seems hardly worth it. Hmpphf.

Thomaston, CT

Pixie, loved all the things you grew.....winter squash is very healthy, unless you put lots of butter & maple syrup on, which is, of course, what I do!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

brown sugar & butter works too

:)

Something is eating all my cabbages! It is a little late to fence them off now that they all have nibbles out of them.

Thomaston, CT

Cabbage worms? Fencing wouldn't help.....

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Maybe really tiny fences

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

No it is something big knawing the cabbage. At first it was only one cabbage - now it has taken a bite of all of them. Ungratefull little so and so.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Neighbors??

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Coleslaw addicts?

Sleep Walking?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Maybe a skunk . . .

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O then you need a disco ball and flashing strobe lights YankeeCat. Worked like a charm on Peppy and Peppermint and you can dance too.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds like a plan!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I think I have a disco ball somewhere . . *rummaging around*

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The critter that has been eating my cabbage tried to climb in my window last night! It scrambled up 3' of siding to get to the livingroom window where I was sitting! Pesky little 'possum! Probably hunting for figs in the tree outside the window. Must be hungry if it is resorting to veggies. LOL (Thank goodness it isn't a skunk!)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh geeze

Thomaston, CT

Poor possums....I've seen many in the road lately.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Time to pick "pumpkins".

That would have scared the life out of me

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The first time I had dealings with a possum, I was scared. Now I am just curious.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just play dead.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

good one!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Memory I think they usually avoid people... maybe the thing has rabies

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Exactly what I was thinking.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

maybe give a call to your animal control

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yank I found this...maybe try some of the deterrents?

Possums are commonly found in suburban areas, where they are often considered pests owing to their habit of eating fruit, vegetables, flowers and tender young shoots from gardens, and nesting in roofs. The loud hissing, crackling territorial call of the male common brushtail may also be a problem for suburban residents. Natural deterrents, which play upon the possum's acute sense of smell, are often employed to discourage them. These include cloves of garlic, camphor or naphthalene.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have lots of garlic! Thanks Celeste!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

still canning t's - lots still out there

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like work!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it is - worth it later
