Gorgeous bloom photos, Helena!!! ♥♥

Jackie - Your Dracula seems to be a much bluer color! Very pretty! :-) :-)

Emma - Your bloom looks like a 4th of July bloom! :-)

The humidity is horrible here right now even though the temps are in the low 90's. Feels much hotter.

Plum Shadows blooms that make this such an interesting and lovely vine!

Thank you Jackie and Becky -

Yes, that does look like a 4th of July bloom doesn't it.
I hope that it grows back True

I love that count dracula, Jackie I thought I had some, but didn't find any when I looked for them. Helena your blooms are always so pretty. I love the Kai no Kasumi (Not) the best of these last photos, the purple stars second.

While dead heading the south flower bed I found a little caudex mg plant that had somehow been thrown down there.
Tonight I chopped some of the sticto cardia and it is rooting. It was an arm about 5ft long that had no where to go. While doing that I found a moonvine in a hanging basket I am sending away to someone, so I took a cutting off of it, have no clue if it will take.

Emma, I can't wait to see your seeds this winter... Your blooms are always oh so pretty.
Becky, hot is good, humid is horrible. I wish I could blow it dry for you there.
I like that Plum Shadows.

This is the giant white I. Nil I cut away from the barrell and it is vining again in the bean patch and looks like we have a seed pod finally.

Blooming again, one bloom at a time, that is okay, I can keep track of it that way.

Those seeds from Joseph were three years old, I am glad I kept them.

the neighbors got a sight this am.. I was jealous. I am keeping the seed pod for sure, the bloom is at least 5 if not 6 inches wide.

Emma, I have been trying to tell everyone that that is a Roman Candy seed I collected from last year, and I am almost positive the coloring came from SOH. I planted it because I wanted to see it again. Last year it was light pink, same form and leaf, tho. I will save you some seeds. I LOVE that last photo of your bloom.
Here are the flowers from last year, that I saved seed from, and planted this year , these flowers last year, were growing with SOH. I am sure they don't cross with I. Purps, right? That was the only other type of MG growing on the north fence, besides the cypress vines , messina creeper and setosa. Am I right in thinking SOH is an I. Nil? or not.. I can't think of anything else.

Debra -
You are correct that your I. nil would not have crossed with your I. purpureas . . .
Yes, your MG could very well have crossed with SOH. If so, you have created a great MG. I will look forward to seeing more of those blooms, and Thanks so much for saving seeds for me. I would really like that.

The last photo is of Tsukiyono 'MoonBeams'

Here is another with a different pattern. The color is just awesome. A Dusky Grayish-Smoky Purple color.

I wish it did.

wow, jealous of everyone's beautiful blooms. Especially that 4th of July-look bloom! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8050019

Helenahkh, that grape purple is probably Atkasu no Murasaki. Does it have small/medium variegated leaves? The flower is large, about 4 inches.

I am utterly awe-struck. So many gorgeous blooms...

Yet one stands out from the rest in my mind: 'Blue Stardust' ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8037228 )

I realize I'm fairly new to the forum and have only posted a few times – and I've only been in touch with 5 or 6 of you regular posters... But, if there was someone out there that had 1 or 2 seeds they could spare of this extraordinary creation from Antoinette's hybridizing, I'd be very grateful and willing to trade for any thing(s) in my tradelist for a chance to grow this gem! ^_^

~Nick

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Nick - The Blue Stardust won't be available for a trade until I get it stabilized. The seeds of the F1 are not producing consistently blue speckled blooms. Hopefully by the end of this year! :-) Thanks for the compliments on this beautiful blooming vine. :-)

(Zone 7a)

Nick, I have a very few of Gourd's seeds - not the Stardust - so can't part with any of those (joints willing and the creek don't rise, I plan to grow them out this summer). And my supplies of other varieties are too low to part with, generally, right now, too.

But since you posted here, I can send you a couple of seeds each from what I suspect may have been among the parents of Stardust somewhere along the line and a few NOID blues so you can experiment with your own crosses this summer. Gardener2005 has done some original breeding on speckled crosses and her website includes a very good pictorial tutorial on how to control pollination for both crosses and selfing (seeds that will come true to parent) plus she will sell her seeds to anyone at reasonable prices.

So I have dmailed you a way to contact her and a couple of others I also think are very good. Does anyone know if it's okay to post links to MG seed sellers here?

Karen

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Karen - That is nice of you to help Nick out! I had a first bloom on one of the Blue Stardust seeds (F3) and as I expecting ... it changed. The blooms were purple speckles on white petals, not the blue speckles on blue petals. I think this cross is going to be very hard to keep those traits going. They keep picking up recessive genes instead of coming true to the F1 vine. :-(

Also, I think it may be better to dmail folks the contact information for seed sellers. I think it might be frowned upon by admin to advertise seed sellers info on a thread here on DG. I don't think they are concerned about trades or freebie seeds, though.

(Zone 7a)

To Becky and interested gardeners - Maybe a compromise would work. Evidently, there are several other forums on DG where admin allows sellers to be mentioned during discussion of a plant. Soooo - my interpretation would be to let everyone know the source on the forum, and then ask any interested party to dmail me for a link. Howzat? I think we've got some wiggle room here, if other forums' experiences are an example.

Also, regarding seeds and plants for sale by DG members, we can click on the Products and Sources tab at the top of any DG webpage, and then in the right-hand column, choose either the DG Marketplace or the Classifieds. A third option on DG is to look up a plant in PlantFiles, where interested DG members and vendors are listed on each plant's page.
-----------------------
Regarding those persnickety blues - humpfh. Maybe we haven't tried to stabilize blue speckles long enough - I seem to recall someone mentioning that stabilizing an MG cross could take as long as 7 years - even past that, I would keep trying - A's Stardust rates right among the top most gorgeous MGs, to me.

Karen

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Karen - I suggest you contact DG admin to ask what the protocol is for the advertising of seed sellers on a public forum thread. It's not my rules, it's DG's rules. :-)

I am on F3 grow-outs of the blue speckles. The current bloom is from one vine. I have another vine I am waiting on to see what kind of blooms it produces. Hopefully, that one will continue the original gene. But I am not going to get excited about it until I see it! I will continue to grow out the seeds with high hopes that I get one that carries the desirable genes forward enough to be considered stable. It's work the effort, as I do agree with you that it is a gorgeous blooming vine. :-)

As usual, I appreciate the information and communications!

I'll be watching and, in time, be growing my own crosses (yikes!).
