Morning Glories

Howard City, MI(Zone 5b)

What is the trick to growing morning glories and getting them to properly climb? They are climbing up my deck railings, but don't seem to flower.

Sunlight is the key for most morning glories (and also some specific varieties are sensitive to excessive heat).

Last year I set out some Japanese morning glory seeds and carefully watered and weeded them and got only a few blooms. I decided I just didn't have enough sun for them - but now this year they have re-seeded themselves and bloomed nicely (although they waited until a cooler part of the year).

I bought different varieties and they've come back from last year. They are in full sun here in north TX. They are a fushia pink, periwinkle blue and purple. I water as I normally would ...when it's been hot, every day

Those are absolutely beautiful! Such a deep blue. It's not Heavenly Blue - what is it?

Fertilizer is a fuzzy term that could refer to a large number of different nutrients...

Nitrogen is just one of the possible components of a 'fertilizer' and excessive levels of nitrogen can delay flowering but phosphorus (which is also a component of some fertilizers) is bloom stimulating to Morning Glories...
