I have a lilac bush that has been out in my yard for years. It is not growing any larger even though it appears healthy and I think this for lack of any sunshine. It is planted in a very shady spot. It is not possible for me to move it so I am wondering if it is possible to put grow lights outdoors? I have an outdoor outlet just about 7 feet from the plant. If this is possible then do you need a special kind of light? Must you protect the bulb from getting wet? Is "grow light" different than sun light? I did not know which forum to ask this question in so I am hoping that somehere can help me out.
light
There are grow bulbs made special for plants, but i don't think it would be a very good idea unless maybe you could protect the bulb from the elements. I hate to say this but it sounds like there is nothing you can do.

Old fashioned lilac or persian lilac? they arent usually huge at all, it may be it is as tall as it gets, since you didnt say how tall it is, and if it looks happy, blooms, it may be fine
I have lilacs in shade which have grown large.
Other lilacs(white) which are in full sun are slow growers.
I agree that it may be as big as it's going to get. If it still wanted to grow and wasn't getting enough light, I think it would grow but be really leggy as it stretched for the light.
