I have one of these plants in a flower bed, and need to move it.
Before I start digging it up, could anyone tell me about the root structure, ( shallow, deep, widespread, narrow ? ).
The trunk of the plant is about 3" around at ground level. With another one coming up about a foot away that is about 1" around.
I'm just not sure about how to proceed. I don't want to kill it.
Japanese Clerodendrum, Peanut Butter Shrub, Harlequin Glory
The roots are fairly shallow and widespread as the tree spreads by runners as well as seeds. It is usually best transplanted while dormant, but most older well established plants resent transplanting and may not survive. The smaller 1" based tree would be a more likely candidate for survival.
