I always have trouble getting seeds off this one.. in fact, it produces very little flowers and I have to hand pollinate those, even then very few seeds if at all.. Any one have better luck with these?

Are these blue silk?

Hi Martin,
They very well could be a Blue Silk cross, these produced several large totally white flowers, they were huge like the one I have here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/40386602@N02/sets/72157621514374568/ I could not figure out how to take my photos out of flicker and put it here without them being tiny.. when I run into the original photo of this white one, I'll post it here.

it is the very first photo of Set one.. The large photo at the left. I believe it has come out of a Akatsuki to Tsuyu mix (white and either it was crossed with blue silk or?) nice sometimes it only has a little bit of lavender. Not my crosses, I think it was open pollenated in Japan from that came in the packages, that is what is nice about the unopened packs you get. I found a photo with my tag, good thing I always take a photo of the tags in case I forget what it is once I start to upload them.

I do have Blue Silk photos with just the blue color on the flower, no lavender at all and the color starts out that way and stays blue, so they are different. So they are not coming out true, the genes are showing up and some are really neat surprises.

One of my favorites, I love this one. I grow these kikyos every chance I get. All of them, it doesn't matter what color they are, they steal my heart. I made a few crosses with this one..

Oh wow, Antoinette, I've never seen some of those. You know I love the splashed ones. And that split personality one is awesome. Is it just that one bloom that is "bipolar" or did other blooms look that way too? It reminds me of the Cleopatra canna with her split personality.

Your dog is beautiful! Who bopped the poor thing on the head? Was he getting too personal with your mgs? LOL

Antoinette, how do you find the ten-tens? Are they easy to grow? Do they have lot's of blooms? I had seeds twice, but had to move home before they flowered each time...

Thanks Nancy, I have two goldens, bro and sis, this one is Harley, he had a hotspot on top of his head and his hair fell off, then the vet shaved him.. he's been getting them all summer, right now all the back of his legs and stomach are shaved and he got a shot Thursday... I don't know how to stop those hotspots anymore, they just take over his body. He looks like a bald chicken this week.

Here's a little Chocolate Blizzard for you, these had tannish seeds, almost white.. it is a cross too.. came out like this 2 years in a row, so far, they may change, but I hope that they stay the same in the next growouts.

Martin, I guess we cross posted, well, I grow my own Kikyo Ten Tens each year to keep on hand for crossing.. No they are not for the faint of heart, as I said before, there are three or fours strains of this going around, some are smaller than others, the one I have is the bigger one. I made a wreath and grew it around.. it is easier to get all the pollen this way. You can see the size comparison on the circle, it is made out of a wire coat hanger. Sometimes this wreath is full of flowers and a nice addition to any garden.

I think these smaller types and the mutants are mostly for the mg hobbyist and not so much for the home gardener, they need so much care and grow so slowly and at times, they don't even look worth it, but, THE POLLEN is worth every minute.. if you have the patience and don't expect too much out of them.

About three years ago or so, a seller from Japan was selling this kikyo Ten Ten and everybody and his brother here bought some here in DG and other original seeds that were spectacular came from this seller also, that is where the original seeds came from., then others started buying different strains of this type of speckled kikyo from different sources like KU and confused them all, they cannot be lumped together because they are so different. Once you grow all four strains you will see the difference in each of them.

I've grown 4 strains of it, some have variegated leaves, some are have the leaves so small and kind of the shape of a bullet and are always very sickly, like I said some are not worth growing, they have mutated so much that they are not healthy.

Here is the strain I have and I supply my own seeds for my self each year. This is one method I use to grow these and I have a couple of wreaths around each grow out and of others that I want to keep handy for pollen.

Antoinette, my Sam gets the same hot spots every summer. This year it got hotter faster and has stayed hotter. We're having record highs. And my pour guy is miserable. He's a siberian breed, not made for these southern summers.

I keep him on benadryl constantly. The vet said it won't hurt him. I give him an adult dosage 2 or 3 times a day (rolled in a piece of cheese. He loves his cheese "treats). The vet has suggested putting him on steroids to knock it out, but he gets mean on steroids so I just do the benadryl. And Walmart makes a Sulfadine shampoo for dogs that I bathe him. It's a medicated, anti-itch shampoo that helps a lot. I keep Sam indoors during the summer and keep the air down to 70 with the ceiling fan blowing on him. But even my AC can't keep up with our heat this year and Sam pays the price. His hot spots are healing but his tail looks pretty ratty right now and it's usually so fluffy, but you can see the skin now.

Did you get your dog a steroid shot? If so, it should help a lot. But ask your vet about the benadryl too. My vet said you can't hurt them with it, can't OD them or anything. It's about the safest drug they can take, he said. It makes Sam sleepy but at least he's not gnawing on the hot spots.

There's also a topical spray your vet can give you. I think it's called Betagen that helps with the itching.

Goldens are so pretty! I bet you have your hands full with 3 of them!

They are my babies, I got the spray, he got the steroid shot Thursday, he looks a lot better, and I do use childrens benadryl.. The things we do for our babies. I do have my hands full with my Turtle herd too..lol

Sam is just a gorgeous dog.

Here is Sazanami (light form), I didn't crop or do closeups so you can see how it performs in full sun.

Antoinette - I love your crosses! And I've had some wonderful surprises myself from seeds that you have shared with me! Gorgeous!

Here is a vine from your seed... Chocolate Blizzard. Is this an F1 or F2? I love it!

How pretty, Becky. I'd name it Blushing Bride. It looks so delicate and sweet with a beautiful blush.

A, Love your beautiful Blooms. One of those looks like a bloom I have had from Liz, it was just called Liz's Lav Beauty. LOL didn't know what else to call it, but it did say lav beauty on the package when she sent it.

Nancy - I love that name!!! Blushing Bride! I think Antoinette should consider that new name! It sounds so perfect!!! :-)
