No they are not for the faint of heart, as I said before, there are three or fours strains of this going around, some are smaller than others, the one I have is the bigger one. I made a wreath and grew it around.. it is easier to get all the pollen this way. You can see the size comparison on the circle, it is made out of a wire coat hanger. Sometimes this wreath is full of flowers and a nice addition to any garden. I think these smaller types and the mutants are mostly for the mg hobbyist and not so much for the home gardener, they need so much care and grow so slowly and at times, they don't even look worth it, but, THE POLLEN is worth every minute.. if you have the patience and don't expect too much out of them. About three years ago or so, a seller from Japan was selling this kikyo Ten Ten and everybody and his brother here bought some here in DG and other original seeds that were spectacular came from this seller also, that is where the original seeds came from., then others started buying different strains of this type of speckled kikyo from different sources like KU and confused them all, they cannot be lumped together because they are so different. Once you grow all four strains you will see the difference in each of them. I've grown 4 strains of it, some have variegated leaves, some are have the leaves so small and kind of the shape of a bullet and are always very sickly, like I said some are not worth growing, they have mutated so much that they are not healthy. Here is the strain I have and I supply my own seeds for my self each year. This is one method I use to grow these and I have a couple of wreaths around each grow out and of others that I want to keep handy for pollen. |
