Seed Swap and Chat #59 - dog dayz of summer

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey Meredith.... good to see you.

I dont like HOT chili, but it needs a good flavor... chili pepper and cumin usually does the trick for me.
DH can always add hot sauce, which he does for everything.

Uggh, know what you mean about the kid friendly versions of things... I think I've forgotten how to season food, with 9 years of making it DD friendly! Just now getting back to real cooking... not that she'll eat everything, but she's old enough that I'm starting to have less sympathy hoping that she'll just try stuff!

Does anyone have a good recipe for vegetable chili? Have yet to find one that I really like (and DH, of course, who would prefer meat, so must be really good!)

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

sorry Kelly -- not me... i'm a meat eater... the more meat the better.
the only veggie i like in my chili is tomatoes.

I don't know a veggie one either. My DH definitely wouldn't like that so I've never bothered trying one. I agree about the cumin, and Chili pepper, I also use a lot of both when I make chili. :)

chuckling at kid friendly chili recipes.. I think I have an unusual kid on my hands... she loves strong/spicy seasonings, and she is all "UMMMMM!" for any type of legume -- not just green peas & green beans, but also kidney beans, black beans, lima beans, pinto beans, red beans, etc. She's 15 months old now, so this may change!

Lol that is funny! I remember my first DD eating chili on her first bday and seeming to love it... but now she freaks out if somethings spicy... I think it is in their heads sometimes.

Hey came over to check the plantfiles out and you all are chatting away lol And there is Meredith, where have you been we have missed you girl! Good to see you :)

Got my list done Terese everything is done outside except for the darn house didn't get my windows caulked and the guy that was going to take my windows in to refinish them at work (the frames) couldn't get the windows apart so now I have to redo them myself along with the windows. This is one time I wish my house wasn't built so good lol No leaves out of the gutter yet either still have a maple across the street I'm waiting on to drop the rest of the leaves and now it rains when I'm wanting to gather up leaves lol Of course! I have done two days of leaves so far but the neighbor has so many I've really been eyeing those!

I don't notice the seeds in the japs making the soup hot but I don't put that many in just a few but I've heard it's the seeds that make it hot too but if it was hot I'd know it lol I like it a little spicy but not hot.

My son would eat anything I put in front of him the only time I had a time with him eating was Tumbleweed food but he finally graduated to Mexican food :) I was getting tired of him ordering fish in a Mex. rest. lol Oh there is one thing he wouldn't eat bread of all things lol He does now but he's 38 now lol

Yes the dh hates when Iam to through when cleaning the jalapenos cause I dont leave any seeds and I really get much of the membrain out too,Ill leave a few with seeds for him,I like hot but not so hot it ruins my meal !!!

I have not done squat with my seeds I saved.Terese I normally keep my seed in the fridge is that a good Idea ???

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Tamara -- I know many do Lea [LeBug] does as does Ella [starlight] I'll always see them comment about finding lost seeds in the back of the crisper.

I've never done it. Only once did i put seeds in the freezer, and that was Penstemon Smallii.

Since 90% of my seeds get winter sown... they get that freeze / chill period naturally.

Thanks was wondering ,since Iam not going to swap them yet would it be a good thing to refidgerate them.Ive kept seed in the fridge for years ,but I really dont know if it affected it in the long run.Didnt keep track....i was a willy nilly seed tosser...I pay closer attention now,try to mark them when tossed ...I really need to get into swapping. But I worry would anyone want my noid deep purple columbine seed ???
