Kymmco, I was the one who said that I had tried several times to get a stand of hyacinthoides hispanica going and have not been able to achieve it. I would love some bulbs to give it a try in another area. I know how you feel about them... I am in the same boat with my montbretia. It is lovely in the garden in small stands, but if you don't stay on top of it, it wants to take over the world!
Mini PNW Roundup in Sept interest?
You've got em Julie.
Julie - I think you'll like them. My SIL put some in here a few years ago - they are everywhere at her place in the city. I do nothing to them and am so happily surprised to see them in the spring. It'll be a long time before I'm truly overrun with them.
But I work in my SILs garden on Sundays and I can see where she's coming from. It's hard to dig anything out without getting another little bulb . . .
I am going to try the hyacinthoides hispanica in an area that I have ajuga and forget-me-nots thriving happily right now. The area is along the edge of my lawn, and only has shrubs and one or two daylilies in addition to the ajuga and fmn's. The color combo should be nice, and if they do take off, they can run to their heart's content without bothering me!
Yeah, that should be nice. Actually there is one bed where I allow the h.h. to live unmolested, and it just happens to be a bed that is edged in ajuga and forget-me-nots! You're right, it is a good combination. I also have blue shades anemones (the little forest ones) in that bed, along with heuchs, Japanese forest grass, hostas, and ferns.
Great minds think alike!
Nuts. Due to a variety of reasons, mostly having to do with too many commitments and getting overly tired the last week, I'm going to have to cancel my plans to join you all tomorrow. I'm extremely disappointed, but truly am so tired and fighting off a cold so think it best I not attend. And if I am indeed coming down with something, you will thank me later for not exposing you!
Have a great time - I know you will!!
Carole
I forgot to mention that I also have white Japanese anenome (sp?) and when I told Julie she said that she has pink ones also.
Sad to here you will not be coming! Rest and feel better!
Carole, wish you were coming. Hopefully next time. In the meantime, take care of yourself!
If anyone wants a rooted start of a corkscrew willow, I also will have that available.
Just wanted to let everyone know that two streets on the way to Lynn's (if you come via Google directions) are without street signs.
234 off of 410 is missing its sign. It's the next right after you pass 221 I believe it is. There's a convenience store on the left and a espresso stand on the right where you should turn.
Then 138th is missing its sign. When you come to the street with no sign, turn there!
Lynn and I have already been plant shopping. LOL We could not wait for Santa Claus/Melissa/Ellie Mae to arrive tomorrow!
And I would be interested in the white japanese anemones.
I hope you all have a wonderful time. It sounds like it will be lots of fun!
I'm sorry, I had really hoped that things would work out for me to be there, but I'm afraid they haven't. For a while yesterday it was looking like it would work out, but nope, not after all. I am very disappointed. Ironically, I can't make it because it looks like we need to drive north on Sunday instead-after some work equipment is delivered to DH tomorrow. He needs to deliver it Sunday, but he needs to be here to receive the shipment. sigh.
And I have lots of plants that I'd like to find new homes for. Anyone up for doing this again, maybe in October or something?
This just adds to my list of reasons to learn to drive.
