SC, I'm up for carpooling and can get myself down to your place. I promise to not be so early, just let me know when you would like to leave. Linda, are you planning to go? If so I can pick you up on my way down.
Mini PNW Roundup in Sept interest?
I just started a new thread for a sign up for what you want to bring to the Potluck.
If the weather is bad, we will have the RU under cover, or in the house or barn. Pray for no rain that day!
With the weather change, my plants are going to seed fast! I will have baggies if you want to take seed pods. I will not have time to cut them back and get seeds cleaned. Hopefully, some will still be blooming so you can see what you are getting.
Seed Pods:
Cerinthe 'Blue Kiwi'
Lupines
Nigella 'Love in a Mist'
Cosmos
Snapdragons
Agastache (Yummy smells like black licorice)
4 o'clocks
Calendula
Shasta Daisy
Many more
I have a few Hosta babies that I started from seed this year. I believe they are Blue Mammoth and Frances Williams. Let me know who wants them.
Lynn, do you have seeds for Amaranthus cruentus 'Hopi Red Dye'? If you do, I would love to have just a few... *batting eyelashes*
Yes, I do. I will save some for you. What else would you like, besides the orange dahlia c? You should come see what all I have, and I will take cuttings/save seeds for you.
Okay! I'm a 'yes'. Springcolor has generously offered me a ride with her and the other gals. I'm so looking forward to it!
I'd love to be on the list of Hosta takers. I'll be bringing some things - just not organized enough yet to know what.
Oh boy... I won't have time to make it out there before my surgery. I have one week left, and three weeks worth of stuff to do. LOL But it's not like I have a bunch of empty space to fill anyway. hehehe. So just those two things would be awesome- and if there winds up being a few crocosmia 'Lucifer' left over I would love to give them a home. :)
Please- everyone look at my "have" list- I don't have many plants on there, but if there's anything that people want, maybe I could send it to the RU with Melissa, if she doesn't mind playing plant taxi for me. :) Same goes for seeds. :)
Bummer, pony, that we won't see you!
Yeah, I'm bummed I won't be there- but 4 days after surgery, I probably won't feel much like being at a party, and driving will be out of the question anyway. :-/
If anyone is interested in starts of the variegated perrywinkle that I have in my front yard, they will be welcome to dig it that day. I do like it a lot where you can keep it confined.
I have some columbine plants up for grabs- I *think* they're 'Origami Yellow' but I can't swear to it. I have 3 pots ready now, and can do probably 3 more if there's any interest.
Interested in the periwinkle and the columbine.
Cool. :)
All of the things I have to share will be on a "dig as we go" basis because I have absolutely no time to dig anything before hand. I know that I will have the golden echi that is the opening pic on the current "full bloom" thread, golden moneywort, jupiter's beard starts, goldenrod starts, and verigated ST John's wort shrub (I will post a pic in the next couple of days... it is really cool) to dig for anyone who is interested. I will have shovel and pots ready when we walk my garden.
Ditto, my garden. I have the Baby Hostas potted up.
I have some good sized Heucheras, so if you know how to divide them, I can share.
Pony, I would love some of your yellow columbines or seeds.
Okay Lynn- I'll mark one of them for you. :)
Can one of you show me how to save seed from Echinacea. I know they are in the cone but how do you pull the seed from the chaff? I will bring some cones to RU. I also know that they are hybrids but, over on the coneflower forum they are showing so amazing stuff. I want to try. Tutorial on seeds saving any teachers? Do we have time for that?
I tend to cut the seed head of any flower and put them in a plastic container to let them get really dry. Once they're dry I put a lid on the container and shake to release the seeds.
I don't know specifically about Echinacea, but it works for Columbines and Poppies.
Anyone interested in some bearded Iris? I have been dividing mine, sending some to my SIL but still have many left. I can send them up to be at the round up next weekend . Of course from my house they are all noids..but they are pretty ones. I will send a flat rate box full and you guys can fight over them.
Ooohhh Bea, I have drooled over your beautiful iris! I would be more than happy to make homes for a few in my new bed!
Ok..I will be sending a box full to Lynn.
Bea - that's so nice. I wish you could come next weekend . . .
Me too! Maybe my new home search will bring me further north..Anything is possible! You all have lots of fun.
Bea, would also like a few of your iris now that I have a sunnier bed! I also wish you could be there. Looking forward to meeting you one day.
OK. Filling the box now...will pack it with as many as I can squeeze in there. Should be some for everyone.
I have Iris too. A few of the variegated with lavender flowers, light lavender, and many Surprise come spring.
The box was just delivered to the postoffice. Should be at Lynn's in plenty of time. I have included a little surprise for you all in the box.Plenty to share! Enjoy them!
Wow - wouldn't that be awesome if you ended up farther north!! Thank you for the box - you are so generous.
Ok, I swear that I suffer prematurely from old timers disease, but I remember that there were a couple of people who wanted some starts of my Filipendula rubra (queen of the prairie). Kathy, were you one? Anyway, if you all could remind me if you want some of it, I will have those pre-dug for roundup because getting into that garden is a bit of a chore and I don't want to do it without my uglies on.....
Yup. I'm one of the Filipendula takers. Thank yoU!
Seeing as Lynn is kind enough to invite dogs, I am planning on coming for sure - and am really looking forward to seeing everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In addition to Spike, I now have Gigi, too (why is it I insist on complicating my life???!!!). I'm attaching a photo of my two pups after they were groomed today - not a clear photo, but kind of gives you the idea. Gigi (I just got her in June) is an easy, easy dog. As some of you know, Spike is pretty lively!
Is Rachel going to be there with Eli?
How many "guys" are attending? I may or may not invite my boyfriend.
She is too cute. One of my nicknames growing up was Gigi. That's what my dad called me. My mom called me Georgie and sometimes Wickedness. (I was the black sheep, what can I say?)
Darling pups, murmur. I would hate to show a picture of Gigit right now as she has some kind of allergic reaction to something she sat on and has a kind of bare butt. Hope it grows out a bit my RU! This seems to happen every year about now and I cannot figure out the cause.
Also, Murmur, I do plan to bring a "guy" guest to RU and will know for sure after this weekend.
Carol - Gigi is darling. I think a pack is not much more difficult than a single dog. Looks like she and Spike get along splendidly!
Sharon - did Gigit maybe sit in the yard/garden after spraying with R/U or demosser or something like that?
My cats get scabs on their foreheads every year in May. They're gone by June . . .
I think you ladies should bring your gentlemen friends along. How fun!
Carole - why don't you have more pictures of the dogs on your FB page?? Get to uploading, girl! I want to see them.
Kathy, I will pot up a flipendula for you.
Carole, it will be great to see you again! Your pups are adorable!
Kathy, Gigit seems to have skin allergies to some kinds of weeds. We have to keep her out of the lower vegie garden in the summer because there is something down there that gets under her skin and makes her itch like crazy. She was a party puppy over the long weekend and went with Mom to a Labor Day party at the house of some of Mom's friends in Bucoda, so she may have had a weed or chemical encounter there. We have nothing around our house right now that should have caused the problem, but you never know..
Poor baby! My neighbors' GSD is allergic to grass, but they do use weed 'n feed and iron for moss, so I'm not 100% sure that's it.
At least you 'kind of' know where it is. Frustrating!
I make sure that I do my one weed n feed application on a weekend in the spring when I know I can take Gigit over to the EWA house, just in case. I know schnauzers are more prone to skin allergies than some dogs. My last one was very allergic to wool.
I've also heard that dogs and cats tend to express their allergies more often in the skin (as opposed to in the lungs, like we do). I hope it's not bugging her too much.
Since we are talking about dogs, and I won't go on and on about this, but my dog and my daughter's dog have formed a pack, and their behavior is abominable. They don't listen, come when called unless they darn well feel like it, and my Koka has taken to tormenting the cats, which until now she has curled up with peacefully. They are a little "bad-ass-gang-pack" and think they are the rulers. I have started walking Koka by herself, and taking only her to the dog park and she is settling down a bit, but when she is with Bleecker they are just bad bad bad.
Ooohhh the "bad influence" friend that Mom wants the kids to stay away from! I can't help you with advice Judy, but I can say that I empathize and I hope you find a decent solution!
