I harvested my Kandy Corn today, and my wife and I just processed and froze it. I kept track this year, and the information will help me plan my plantings in future seasons and may help others here.
Harvested at 67 days after sowing - that's REAL early for Kandy Corn to be ready, but conditions have been just about perfect for corn this season. No droughts, no hail, a good rain every 3 or 4 days, hot and humid. I had to water very little.
I planted 6 short rows 42" apart, 7" between seeds. Thinned to 14" between plants when they were about 8" tall. I tilled some 10-20-10 fertilizer into the rows before planting, and sprayed the plants with MiracleGro twice during the season. As cornsilk appeared, I kept the silks dusted with Sevin for earworms.
We harvested 140 ears from 80 cornstalks. That's 1.75 ears per plant, real good I think - and I hope I can match it in future seasons.
Kandy Corn report
Ozark,
Those are beauties!
And thanks for taking the time to post such a great growing report. It should become the standard for all harvest reporting here at Dave's Garden. This type of information is truly invaluable.
Linda
Wow -- those look good.
