Help! Miscanthus is fried!

Toledo, OH

Hello! I got three new Miscanthus sinensis v. purpurascens (flame grass) a few weeks ago and they're not doing very well. It's been a struggle to keep them from drying out with all the hot weather we've been having, but I was doing OK till I went away for three days and came back to find them looking totally frazzled. We only got rain one of those days, and it looks like the person who was watering things for me either missed them or didn't give them enough water. I'm giving them a good soak now, but I wondered if I should maybe cut them back . . . I have another Miscanthus that I rescued from a Dumpster a few weeks ago, and it had been cut back and is now thriving with about 24" of new growth. Any thoughts? I'm sure they'll come back just fine next year, but I'd like them to look as nice as possible through this fall and winter.

Thanks!

The weather this year has been something for sure, I lost 2 huecheras in this crazy heat/drought. I would cut it back if it's really bad, let it put all it's energy into root growth and hopefully will come back better next year.
