Hi everyone: I have a lot of plants in my front garden and a lot of plants in my back garden as well. However, I would have to say one of my all-time favorites are Hydrangeas. Three years ago, I went out and bought a Pee gee Hydrangea shrub that was absolutely beautiful when I put it in the ground. The tree was lush with new growth and after a short time, flower buds started to appear. That first year, that tree was a show-stopper. Many large bright blooms adorned its' branches. There were so many, I thought the branches might break. I love Hydrangeas. Can you tell? I have Annabelles as well. Plus another tree that has fertile and non-fertile blossoms. Anyway, to make a long story short, it bloomed beautifully the next year. Then something happened this year that I cannot explain. The tree leafed out fine, but when the flower buds started to appear, their growth seemed stunted. I tried everything I could think of to remedy that poor tree, but to no avail. It died and I had the unpleasant task of digging it out. I take my losses well I suppose because I understand nature so well. Plus I think of it this way, that tree gave me a couple of good years. Anyway, this year I found a new Hydrangea shrub from Holland. It is called Limelight and it is well worth the name. It is said to be hartier than Pee Gee and mory sturdy in the trunk and branches. I brought it home and in two weeks I was looking at a shrub with twenty one blossoms on it and everyone is lime green. It is said to go from lime green to pink and then burgundy in the fall. I cannot believe the growth of this shrub. It is truly awesome! The blossoms are all at least six inches long and wide and there are more new ones coming as well. It is said to bloom from July until frost. I think I found a winner. We'll have to just wait and see I guess.
Hydrangeas are beautiful!!
What a beautiful dog and such lovely coloring!
Limelight is a great choice!! It's very hardy and it doesn't sprawl quite as much as the others. It has more of an upright habit. It's one of my favorite hydrangas.
