what is the easiest way to collect your own seeds from tomatoes? This is the first year I want to try it:o)
collecting seeds
I use a round coffee filter. Write down the name of tomato variety on the filter. Squeeze out seeds from tomato onto the filter and spread them out. Set filter on tray or paper plate in a warm dry place. When seeds are completely dry, scrape them off the filter with butter knife and save them in bag or pouch of your choice. I use the same filter and fold it into an envelope with the seeds still in it. That way I can store several kinds of tomato seeds in one zippered plastic bag.
If you use the same coffee filter to store them ... then why would you need to scrape them off the filter?
merrymath: true that scraping isn't necessary. But I like the seeds to be loosened before I fold the filter into a packet. It's just me.
thanks! I have some white tomatoes that I want to save. I appreciate it!
