grass growing though kinikinik

Bremerton, WA

is there a herbicide that will kill grass that is growing though kinikinik/ other ground hugging shrubs?

Anything that will kill regular grass(not weeds) will kill any wanted plants and damage shrubs. Best bet to pull by hand.

Not true, jen. Ornamec is a selective herbicide that only kills grass.

I get mine at the local farmer's coop. It works great. Especially when Bermuda grass sneaks into a border when you're not looking. :-)

Wow, I had NEVER heard of that...my bad. Wish I knew about it when I was having problems with grass growing thru my creeping phlox.

Just checked info on where to get it, no wonder I never heard of it they only sell it at John Deere store up here.

There's also Ortho Grass B Gone and another one called Green Light Grass Out (both have the same active as Ornamec). You may have better luck finding those at your local nursery, etc. One thing to be aware of is at least with some types of grass it seems to work rather slowly. You apply it, and then a week or so later when you're about to give up and figure it hasn't worked, then all of a sudden you'll go out one morning and the grass will be dying. So be patient and don't worry if it doesn't look dead the next day after you apply it.

Another note on grass killer. It is good for those unwanted Miscanthus and other ornamental grass seedlings that come up where you don't want them. Yea, I know, it's the lazy man's way. :-P
