Help! My pepper plants won't grow peppers!

I am fairly new to gardening, and started my first real garden this spring. I live in the Phoenix area, so I was able to start my garden in mid-March; I used Miracle Gro Organic garden soil. At that time I planted several herbs (all doing just fine) and two Bonnie pepper plants--one red pepper, one yellow. They have both grown very tall, close to three feet, and are very leafy and green, but so far not a single pepper on either plant. What am I doing wrong???

Bonnie peppers are not a variety. Bonnie is a company that supplies plant material. I am assuming that the peppers you planted are bells. There is evidence that shows very high heat can affect fruit production of bell peppers. Providing shade of some type during the hottest part of the day may be beneficial or planting by a fence or structure that provides shade . If you are using a high nitrogen fertilizer you will get a great leafy plant at the expense of fruit production. I see where you stated you were new to gardening so here is a primer on fertilizer. Fertilizers are composed of 3 major elements, (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium). They may be labeled as N for nitrogen, P for phosphorus and K for potassium and are generally listed in that order. If you are fertilizing with something with a high first number you are giving the plant a high dose of nitrogen. A good general fertilizer for fruiting vegetables would be labeled 5-10-10 with 5 being the percentage of nitrogen. You can Google fertilizer for a detailed explanation of how fertilizers work. Something else that comes to mind. If your plants are producing buds and they are being aborted it could be a Magnesium deficiency. This can be corrected by mixing 1 tsp. Epsom Salts with a quart of water and misting the plants. Hope this helps.

What ever it is we must both be doing the wrong thing with peppers. I also planted two Bonnie pepper plants but was lucky enough to get at least one green bell pepper off of one of them. The other plant did nothing. 2 zukeny and crooked next squash did nothing either.

We have a Bonnie growing farm near us and I went over to ask some questions but there was nobody around. I think they were all out to lunch. I could have walked off with the whole place if I wanted to. I think the advce on the fertilizer would be helpfull. Good luck next time,
