Care of Desert Rose

Buena Vista, VA

My first one. I have read to water well when completely dry and have done so. The first time leaves turned yellow and started to fall. Next looked like waited too long as some buds dried up. Have now watered for second time and leaves starting to turn yellow. There are several new leaves, though. Help!!!

ok mine is in morning sun till about lunch time in shade rest of day. while it is flowering i water a lot as its very hot here. they dont like soggy feet.

question did you change it from like cold to hot? is it too dry water isn't being held near roots fertilized it? any of they can cause yellow leaves rapidly. also a change of light can cause this as well as diseases .

as for watering i water mine once a week during summer less during winter but make sure drains really well and no water near roots. also make sure its not mushy near dirt on caudix of plant. i had one go mushy on me but saved it. was scared to do as suggested but did save it. 50 50 chance but check above things to make sure not them.

Thanks imzadi.
Mine is presently outside but, in a pot. Right now it has no buds but leaves look good. It has been eight or nine days since I watered it and feel I must water it today or tomorrow just because it's been so long.
I worry, too, that when it has to come inside for the winter it will have a harder time drying out after watering. Any suggestions there?

mine are in pots too. i water very little in the winter. i let them dry completely out first. they usually lose their leaves but come back if kept warm enough. i actually treat them like cacti during winter. i water if lucky once every 2 weeks. if the days are warmer maybe once a week.

make sure pots are well drained and i dont water as much . if i see water coming out bottom i stop. so there is no over flow. i also sometimes mist the leaves if they have it.

MomtoFawn, I'm wondering if you are watering with water from your faucet. If so, its possible the salts are burning the plant. I always let my water sit for 24 hours before I water the desert rose.

i water straight from my faucets and we have terrible water
