I'm a terrible gardener but jasmine grows very well around here (San Francisco Bay Area) and it was doing all right for a while. Now it looks like this. Any ideas? I love jasmine and really want it to work.
What's wrong with my jasmine plant? :(
Since it's in a pot, the first thing I'd check is watering (is it too wet or too dry), and secondly I'd see if it's gotten really rootbound--could be it's time to be repotted into something larger. If you've got a yard, this particular plant (Trachelospermum jasminoides) is plenty hardy here so it would probably be happier planted in the ground rather than kept in a pot.
When it started to die, I thought I wasn't watering it enough. Then I started watering it much more and it got worse. But maybe putting it in the ground would work!
If it got worse when you watered it more then I suspect possibly overwatering--you might try sticking your finger down a few inches into the pot and see how wet it feels, that ought to tell you if it's been watered too much.
It did, but it was bad before I started watering it more too.
It could have been too wet before you started watering it more too. Over and under watering can have similar symptoms, and one thing that tells you it was likely overwatered in the first place is if it's not looking great and you water it and that makes it worse instead of better. Hard to say for sure though since you can't go back in time!
Do you give it a little fertilizer every so often? I have jasmine that's been growing in a large clay pot for several years and it gets to looking sad like that if I forget to feed it.
