Hydeangea v snow ball bush

Harvey, IL

Hi, I want to know if there is a bush named snowball bush? The Hydrangea looks very similar, but with flowers more conical. The snowball flowers are more round or circular in shape. I hope someone knows what I mean. thanks

This is why but bl proper names for plants can be so much better to communicate what you mean. Snowball Bush is used to describe plants from both the Hydrangea and Viburnum. Annabelle is the hydrangea most often called snowball bush in my area during summer and many different viburnum, which bloom earlier, could go by the same name.

I've usually seen people use "snowball bush" to refer to Viburnum vs Hydrangea--but even within Viburnum it appears there are several different ones that have that common name. Maybe if you take a look through here you'll see the one you're looking for: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=snowball&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=viburnum&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search But as maozamom pointed out common names are very unreliable and the same name is often applied to several completely unrelated plants so without a Latin name or a picture of the plant it's hard to be sure we're all talking about the same thing.

I have a viburnum snowball bush. It is hard (and wonderful) when you inherit a bunch of plants when you buy a house. It has taken me all summer to identify all of them. Here is a picture of mine this spring.
