I live in Cincinnati, Ohio - zone 6a - and am trying to figure out a way to squeeze a Montmorency cherry tree in our backyard. Does anyone happen to know if young trees need to be planted at a specific time of year (i.e. spring) or can they be planted at any time? I don't know if my patience can hold out until next spring!
When to plant Montmorency cherry tree?
I believe you can plant them in the fall as well. Arborday.com has info on that I believe.

As long as it gets enough water you can plant it now. It may go into transplant shock or not, but they are tough little trees, and oh those cherries are sour. Good for pie.
Thanks for the guidance everyone!
