I'm in the process of digging out a new flowerbed. It was in part of my lawn where there was a lot of "field grass" as opposed to turf. I hate to put it elsewhere in the yard because I don't want to spread unwanted grass, but I do have several places where I need fill. Should I solarize it or compost it? Its too much for my compost bin, but I have a corner of the yard where I could put it for awhile. n And what would be the quickest way to get the sod part to break down? Any thoughts?
What to do with dirt from flowerbed?
I stick all my unwanted dirt in a far back corner of our yard
I would put it in the corner of the yard where it won't be in your way. Cover it in black fabric and leave it for about 8 weeks or so. That will kill all the grass. That's how I kill grass for new beds. Cover it, let it sit, dig it up.
Thanks, guys. You think if I add some horse manure it will break down faster? I know someone who has a horse.
Adding manure is always a good thing. Here's an article I found.
