Barringtonia acutangula flowers during the Build-up season, the prelude to the monsoon. That's from about September to and including November. There's usually a lot of seed around December onwards. Just can't quite remember now how long it takes to ripen.
Amyema sanguinea.
Let's play the color game....RED!!
Martha, where can I get Sacoila lanceolata aka lady's tresses plant?
I was just about to ask the same thing Kay! That's one I'd like to try. Does it be hardy here or have to go under protection?
These are native's. We found these growing along the tree line of our north west facing horse pasture. Almost mowed it over. The bloom stalks come up, but no leaves....so it's like this firecracker shooting up out of the ground. Once the blooms are done they develop leaves. I had no clue what it was but dug them up and brought them into the yard. I put them in 3 gallon pots as the root system was huge. I found them last spring. They stayed outside in the pots all winter and popped up again this spring. I'm trying to decide were I want to put them, as I don't want to lose track of them. I have no idea if they can be bought or not. I've got two pots, and have not yet tried to divide them. I really need to pick a spot and get them in the ground. In the spring, all along International Speedway Blvd. between here and Daytona Beach they pop up in the median ! I don't know if they were planted. but they flag them, and NO mowing during that time. It's quite a sight !
Well you are very lucky!!!!! I think they may not be cold tolerant here I have never seen those anywhere
goth, I do know they will grow in pots....so could be taken in............but "finding" them may be another matter.......I've not looked for them online for sale, or any where else for that matter, yes, I do feel lucky, and we almost mowed them down !
I am coveting your Stictocardia, Gina - it's GORGEOUS!
Kay and Goth

Wow MJ I didn;t realize it was actually an orchid. According to the range map it should be native and hardy here. I am going to call up the local native plant society and see it they might have it.
Kay, thanks! I got cuttings from a friend last summer who lives in South FL and it has done really well for me. I had to trellis it overhead on some old garden hoses strung up in the greenhouse eves at the 12 ft height.
Love it, Gina!
"parrot type impatiens"??? Tell us more about them.....
oh Debra, I KNOW you have more red than that !
I forgot the species. is it niamensis or some such? I think that one is called Jungle King. There's also a Jungle Queen and a Pink Cockatoo I think
Cool! One more interesting plant to look for. LOL
