Hi all. My stargazers are just starting to bloom. Most still have unopened buds. Painters are coming on Monday, and I'm afraid the blossoms along the house will be damaged during the project. (The painters have been super careful everywhere, but I think this is inevitable.) So I'm thinking to cut them and bring them inside.
How much stem do I need to leave so they recharge for next year?
Thanks! Penny
cutting stargazer lilies
Leave at least 2/3 of the stem and still warn the painters to be careful. The leaves are critical to the survival of the lilies.
You might want to create a makeshift fence around them, complete with white or red flag warnings. Those little flags are available at hardware stores and reasonably priced - 100 for $10.00. I didn't spot any smaller packages.
Good luck and enjoy the Stargazers indoors: I do!
