Lucky Bamboo in a Long Neck Bottle

Saint Stephens Churc, VA

Lucky bamboo (yes, I know it's not really bamboo) is awesome at thriving in just water, but I'm used to open pots that get air flow. Since the lucky bamboo can live submerged, I theorize its roots do not require a lot of oxygen. So, I'm trying my single lucky bamboo in a long-neck bottle. What kind of problems, if any, might this pose for me and my lucky bamboo?

Although Dracaena sanderiana will survive for some time in plain water, it is not an aquatic plant. If you grow it in soil you'll get much better results.

I agree about planting it in soil. You will need to feed it weekly if left in water to grow. And it WILL grow. It may outgrow the bottle neck before you know it.

To be honest, I'd rather feed it every week than put it in soil. I prefer to plant via hydroculture and use Hydroton in the house. I don't mind moving it out of the bottle and into some Hydroton, it was a temporary solution because I didn't have a more appropriate container for it. I found I liked how it looked in the bottle, though, so I considered keeping it there. I expect to pick up a better container this weekend.

Thanks, both of you! :)
