Oriental Lily blooms shrinking

Byron Center, MI

The older my stargazer and other orientals get, the smaller they are becoming. Does anyone know if this is to be expected. The stalks are shorter also.

Too crowded???

Actually, no. They're at least 12" apart. They are about 6-7 years old. Any thoughts?
Thanks flowerjen!

have you dug up and divided your bulbs in that 6-7 years?

:-(
I've not divided them at all. I thought that dividing was only for flowers that bloom in clumps, i.e. iris, daylily, etc. If that sounds like the problem (it makes sense) If I dig them up will any of the bulbs be worth replanting?

You can replant all the bulbs, or just the larger ones. Probably will not get flowers the next year, but you will get the year after.

I found this article about lilys very informative.

Thanks Chinabit--that site was very helpful--I'll start on that as soon as they go dormant.

youve probably got 200+bulbs underground, pot them up and sell-off the unwanted ones as i do.
