Does anyone know where I can get a good solid water gauge for outdoor use? I am the kind of person that can not use my finger and guess. I need a gauge. Right now I have a gauge designed for indoor plants and (although it works outdoors) it is rather flimsy and has broken on occasion with the rugged outdoor environment (roots, rocks etc.) I need a solid gauge I can stick in the ground and give me a reading on the amount of water present in the ground near my shrubbery. Thanks for any help you can give me here.

Have you tried local co-ops, farm supply stores or forestry supply places? You might try running a search to see if you can find any of the above online too.
