Anne, you must have treated it well. Don't let the bulb freeze and it should keep blooming for you, only now it might do it summer instead of Christmas. Lucky you!

A co-worker game me an amarylis this past christmas and all it ever did for me is grow a long stem indoors. i just planted it outside. Hopefully mine will bloom like your has!

daisy96,
I have one that did the same thing so I planted it outdoors too. It had one bloom the first year, two the next, and this year it had several and is beginning to multiply :-} The other change, of course, is that it now blooms in late spring rather than at Christmas.

I have few amaryllis, still in pots and very afraid to plant them in my garden for fear that I might lose them. i have however a friend who has tons of them outside multiplying like crazy . They only bloom once in spring and plan to plant them outside. Here are pics from spring. Belle

I am downstairs and do not have pics here but will post when I go upstairs on my other PC.

I love that color bellieg! Mine are the standard bright red but they're still beautiful. I'll have to look around and find some like the color you have. They're all so beautiful.

You did some things exactly right to get it to bloom again for you Anne. New Amaryllis bulbs are given cold treatments so that they will immediately grow and bloom for you right after you purchase them. Usually they are sold to bloom around Christmas. Since they are tropical plants/bulbs we plant them directly into the ground here in South Florida after they have finished blooming. There normal outside blooming time here is April/May. If I purchased one to bloom around Christmas 2008 and then planted it in the ground I will not see blooms in 2009. It's because the bulb will not have stored enough energy to bloom so quickly again in just 4 months. The good thing is that when the next bloom cycle came around in April/May 2010 it did bloom again since its had plenty of time to store energy and adjust to its natural bloom cycle. From now on it will bloom again each spring and the bulbs actually divide and multiply from year to year. Since you kept yours inside during the winter of 2009/10 you kept it alive and it had plenty of time to gather enough energy to bloom for you in 2010. If you want it to bloom again for you in 2011 you're going to have to dig it up, repot it and bring it inside before you get frost/freezes this fall. It's a "tropical" so it will not make it through winter outside in your zone.
