Found red aphids on my tomato plants!

Orange, CA(Zone 10b)

I knocked most of them off with water but they came back the next day. A fellow gardener recommended "Organocide" spray. Has anyone here used this before? Does it work? Is it safe?

I just spray with water and Murphy Oil Soap mixture. We put it in a big sprayer bottle with Bt, compost tea, and liquid seaweed or fish emulsion.

Stephanietx, : Do you spray compost tea on your vegetables throughout the season? Also, do you spray only the leaves.?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I just spray. LOL It's too hard to get just the leaves, so I spray everywhere. I only do the Bt on the maters, peppers, and anything in the brassica family for the hornworms and the cabbage worms. Everything else just gets a dash of soap, some compost tea, and fish emulsion.

Quyen - I don't spray anything, but from what I have read, soap will kill aphids. You do have to coat the entire insect. I think they breath through their skin (exoskeleton)

Be careful of oil during hot weather, it will burn your leaves.

Wrens and Hummingbirds love aphids ^_^ - which is probably why I didn't have any aphids this year, even on my roses.

Thanks for the info stephanietx and HoneybeeNC.

Found black aphids on my cucumbers and a few spots of powdery mildew on my squash, too. Arrrgh....

Sprayed the soap mixture this morning. Will have to wait till tomorrow to see if it works because all this drama is taking place at my rented plot, about 3 miles away.

I use organcide all the time. its good stuff. it will kill everything. its safe if you have pets too.
