Snapdragons

Central Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I was wondering if you all think I should pull out my snapdragons? They are less than appealing at this time. They are looking a little worn.

I would and then plant some other annuals in there for the remainder of the season

Thanks flowerjen! I was thinking of putting some salvia in there.

I never pull my snapdragons...I just let them die back...then give them a trim...they come back all the time for me!!

Love how they self-seed in cracks and yet thrive.

Do snapdragons make seed that is easy to collect?

Is spring the time to plant snapdragen seeds?

I've heard that the best way to sow Snapdragon seeds is indoors, except in warmer climates. In that case, you could throw them outside in the fall. This year, I'm starting my seeds inside though. Maybe someone else has sown them in the spring and they can help you out.
Good luck!

I've sown them indoors; they're almost like powder.

For a change, try the bright colors of celosia. They're great border plants.

One thing most new or inexperieced gardeners forget is to deadhead, (cut back the spent blooms and will branch with tons more blooms, snaps can bloom til frost usually.) Another form of deadheading is cut and make a bouquet, lol. my favorite. And yes can start indoors under light but if lucky may reseed outdoors, have seen 1 neighbor who has them growing all over the yard (gardens) from reseeding. Good Luck, Kathy.
