I have an ant colony living at the base of my jalapeno plant. I believe they are protein ants (at least that is what a buddy who was visiting and works for a pest control service told me they were). I live in Hawaii were there are no fire ants so i know they arent those. How do i get them to leave! I read online that cinnamon works so i just sprinkled alot over that area and i will wait to see if that works; however, when i read about it, it seems more for trails of ants and not used for uprooting a colony.....does anyone else have any remedies they have used for this situation and know it works?
EDIT- sorry i just looked and saw that this was beginner flowers.....still would appriciate answers......

ants, how do you get them out of your garden
Ants actually help aerate the soil but if you are inundated with them and want to kill them boiling water will kill them
here's some info on more natural control

I've had some success in sprinkling table salt on the ant hills. They don't seem to like that, and it's not poisonous.

Too much salt won't be good for plants, so make sure you don't sprinkle too much. If they're in a couple of particular places in your garden, boric acid baits are relatively nontoxic to everything but ants and can be good for getting rid of the colony. If they're all over though it would take too many bait stations to get them under control. Ants (at least the ones we have here) don't eat plants so the only time I do anything about them is if they're right near the house, or if they're crawling all over the plants farming aphids/scale. But as long as they're staying in/on the ground I leave them alone.
Table salt is definitely bad for the soil.
