I finally pulled out the Swiss chards from my raised bed. Which vegetables would be ideal to plant in that area at this time? Would it be okay to put some summer squash there? Are there anything that I should NOT plant there? I do plan to mix in some manure and compost before planting.
What should go in after chards come out?
I'm about to pull the rest of my chard as well. I will probably plant more corn in its place- I have a corn variety that matures in about 80 days. I chose corn because I had never grown it before, and I knew it would be ready to harvest just in time for my cooler fall crops of lettuce and more chard and such. Of course, since you are in zone 10b you may not have to time things so much, lol.
I don't think there is anything I can think of that you shouldn't plant there... I'd say whatever will do well in your area right now. I followed my chard this spring with tomatoes, sweet potatoes, zinnias, squash and pumpkins - sky's the limit!
I'm still mulling over the possibilities. It is a very small area, only about 2' x 2'. If I put a tomato, squash, or melon there, I will probably need a cage. Hmm...
