Sports Talk!! Part 4

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm rooting for the Giants in the NL and the Twins in the AL but my prediction is a rematch of last year's World Series with the Phillies and the Yankees with the Phillies winning in 7.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

same here chad.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Go Phillies!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think it will be Rays vs. Phillies, with Rays winning.

Thomaston, CT

Cannot root for Braves or Phillies....would like to see Giants or Rays win.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

If the Rays go to the World Series, do you think they'll still need to give away tickets just to fill the seats?

I find it hard to root for a team that isn't even supported by their own city.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

some of the cross-country i saw on sat.(world equestrian games)

i agree about the rays and having no support

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not even athletic??

South Hamilton, MA

Now the Packers safety is out for the season with ACL tear. After losing RB it makes it tough.

Lots of folks at the meet, Jumper....nice to see! Probably more there then at the Rays!

South Hamilton, MA

not hard. the Rays just don't have the team history--many people living in FL still root for other teams.

Thomaston, CT

True...and there's always the beach!

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Nobody noticed that the American women won the FIBA World Basketball championship?
(That's to be expected, most of the media ignored it as well.)

South Hamilton, MA

yes, it was far down on the google sports as well--no pictures in the paper, but the women have never been credited in sports except for tennis.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi Don! How are you?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The playoffs used to always start on Tuesday. Why the change??

South Hamilton, MA

TV commitments I would think. Or perhaps with the teams spread out --travel time?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Two days is more than enough. That's what they always have. One possibility is to leave open the possibility of one-game playoffs in tie situations. There have been a few in recent years.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Yeah, this year they could have had a one-game playoff between the Padres and the Giants to determine the NL West winner and then a follow-up game vs. the Braves to determine the Wild Card winner but the Giants' win on the last day prevented that scenario from coming into play.

I do think that they need to tighten the playoff schedule though. If there's a game 5 in the world series it will be played in November!!!! Game 7 is scheduled for November 4th! That's just wrong. It's definitely TV that is ruining it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it's nuts. Go back to 150 games. It's all about $$$. Imagine November baseball for Twins fans!

South Hamilton, MA

No worse than temp for vikings games.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

so says the packer fan :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Please don't mention 'frozen tundra'!!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Can you imagine how hard it would be to hit a baseball during a snowstorm?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'd love to see that!

Thomaston, CT

You may!....I had been following the women's BB in the paper....don't get the channel they were on....mostly Uconn alumni, with Geno coaching......this season doesn't look as dominant for the Husky women, which is probably good for the game as a whole.

South Hamilton, MA

I think that the Twins might still be playing indoors. 'Frozen tundra' is a misnomer. There is a heat cable under the field at Lambeau.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No - they have a real stadium now.

South Hamilton, MA

OK then the Yankees will freeze.

Thomaston, CT

But not float away like in NYC.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow! Congrats to Roy Halladay! First post-season nono since '56.

Thomaston, CT

OMG....missed it! Just tuned in the Yankees game.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw the last three innings - he had it going

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dang Yankees!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Felt bad for the Twins starting pitcher. He did a great job until Texiera's double got the Yankees going.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, he was really coasting, but the third time around the batting order is always the real test.

Thomaston, CT

Yankees feel confident against Twins, because they won the year's series against them...but I don't think they'll win it all this year.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And they have handled them easily the last three times in the playoffs.
