Sports Talk!! Part 4
Go Netherlands!
Yes, they can use a World Cup. And Santana was brilliant last night, Pelfrey was awful....nobody is very consistent.
They're really hyping the Lebron decision. Special show on ESPN to announce it. I think it will be the Knicks.
I bet he stays--too many contacts in the area. I don't like the hype, but since it benefits the boys' & girls' clubs, I will say no more.
I think he'll choose Chicago.
Plus why are all the eastern division teams improving. Something needs to be done to make the Lakers fight for their games. They just slide around without teams challenging them.
Since he's announcing in Greenwich, I'm betting Knicks.
Read that taxes may be a major factor favoring Lebron choosing Miami over NY.
It probably doesn't hurt that Miami has nicer weather most of the year and that both Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh will be there too.
Much ado about nothing, stays put. No matter how it ends up, too much hype, so sick of hearing about "the big event".
That's par for the course these days, Pat. Everything is over-hyped - sports, politics, celebrities, etc.
I would still be humble with all that money. That's why I don't have any.
I'd like to find out if I would be!
I'd pay someone to make me look humble.
Hee hee. I'll take that job!
Don't intend to listen as it will be all over the news. Greenwich sounds like Knicks to me, but I don't see that he would be any better off. Celtics just signed Jamine O'Neil from the Heat. that helps plug up the middle while Perkins is out.
He will make WAY more $$ in NY than anywhere else. Jordan should have come here.
I'm having a Bailey's in my NY Knicks shot glass. Good luck!
He's really after a championship ring more than money. Has the money after 7 yrs.
It's also endorsements, spotlight, etc. NYC is the center of the universe.
do not think he can make more in nyc - staying in cleveland
Can't make more in NY than Cleveland?!!! What are you smoking? A marketing firm predicted he could make one billion in NY with contract, endorsements, etc. Closest was 600 mill - I think in Miami.
Ugh - the Heat!
After being in cold Cleveland, can't blame him! Pat Riley is a loser though. Doubt they will win anytime soon.
Not too happy with his choice.
He grew up near cold Cleveland. Only people in NYC think that it is the center of the universe. Makes you want to root for Orlando & riley has always been full of himself, more than many other coaches.
lucy i agree with you 100% about those folks in NYC!
i understand wanting a ring - leaving his home town is just wrong!
He is friends with the other players, so that may work out. I feel sorry for the Cleveland fans. The Celtics got KG & Ray Allen in trades so the other clubs were not left High & dry. All fans think their teams are the center of the universe. Now MN wants to move Al Jefferson. He will be better playing with some good veterans. 5 people on the floor at once, not a 'star' that the other players watch & forget their own roles, although the 3 members of the Heat played together before.
Ha ha! NY envy. Even with all its problems and high taxes, etc., NY leads the world in so many categories that it's impossible to list.
The hometown angle is silly. He played for 7 years there. Doesn't owe them anything. The owner was a jerk for his response. Fact is, you're never taken seriously as an all-time great without a ring. Now that he;s on Miami, I hope he never gets one! Kobe is a great player who has wrongly been overshadowed in all this. 5 rings and counting.
Kobe was not a free agent & older. The media has trained LeBron to respond to all the hype & he came out of high school so was not as sharp about it as Magic & Larry B. You do need experienced back-up. Cleveland will suffer until the team wins a championship. It would be funny if they do so in the next couple of yrs, Celtics first of course.
I don't see the Cavs winning a championship for quite a while now, but man if they made it to the finals without Lebron I would become the biggest bandwagon fan of all-time. How great would that be for Cleveland to win without the "King"?
Are the rumors that the Yankees are going to trade for Cliff Lee anything more than rumors? Just a couple weeks ago they said they weren't interested in adding another pitcher. What's wrong with the 5 they've already got?
Kobe came out of HS too.
Yes, I'm heating about Lee. Supposedly the Mets are interested too. Hope so!!
I've heard Yankees, Mets, Twins, Reds, and Rangers are all interested. I can't imagine a team that wouldn't be interested in adding Lee though. Of all those teams, the Yankees seem like the team that needs him the least.
NY envy?? let me quote you - WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? :)
not a fan of the place.
It would be sweet revenge if the Cavs would do well without him. He told his mom his decision, but not his boss. There are alot of hurt feelings here as the team was being built around him and he was not willing to wait and see.
Not surprised to hear that, Bill.
Me neither. Last time we were there was before 9/11 only because my nephew was visiting so met him. We had to walk through the garage which was later blown up & stayed at the hotel in the trwin tower complex as the law team which nephew was coaching was there. Luckily we didn't have to do much in the real tourist area, but not returned since. I can see that it might be fun if you were visiting someone in the neighborhoods, but not the place for me. Real 'ugh' as far as I'm concerned.
Terrorists can strike anywhere. Two planes took off from your airport. No city can compare with restaurants, theater, museums...It's the most diverse place on earth. If you're afraid of people, it's not the place to be.
I'm not a city girl...when my Dad took us every year, I couldn't wait to get home. As an adult I see the advantages, but give me the farm any old day.
